The present invention relates to polygalactomannan compositions, and more particularly cationic guar gum compositions, which, when crosslinked with glyoxal, from discrete guar particles which are capable of being easily dispersed in water which permits subsequent processing of the guar, such as washing. The guar and its derivatives are desirable for use in applications such as personal care, household care products and the like.

Dispersible cationic polygalactomannan polymers for use in personal care and household care applications

A personal or household care product includes cationic, nonionic or cationic/nonionic derivatized polysaccharide in combination with a phosphate ester surfactant. The derivatized polysaccharide polymer is formed by reacting the polysaccharide ester surfactant for a sufficient time and at a sufficient temperature in the presence of water, caustic, and at least one surfactant. The polysaccharide polymer may optionally be reacted with an oxidizing agent, hydrolytic or proteolytic enzymes, molecular weight reducing agents and a cationizing agent and nonionic agent. The formed derivatized polysaccharide has a lower clarity in water than in an aqueous surfactant system.

A process for producing anionic, nonionic, amphoteric or cationic derivatized polysaccharide products which demonstrate high clarity in surfactant-based compositions. The polysaccharide polymer is reacted for a sufficient time and at a sufficient temperature in the presence of water, caustic, and at least one surfactant. The polysaccharide polymer may optionally be reacted with an oxidizing agent, hydrolytic or proteolytic enzymes, molecular weight reducing agents and a cationizing agent and nonionic agent. The formed derivatized polysaccharide has a lower clarity in water than in an aqueous surfactant system. The derivatized polysaccharide product can be used in personal care and or household care products.

Disclosed are hair spray compositions containing non-ionic cellulosic ethers in a solvent base containing water and volatile organic solvent wherein the level of volatile organic solvent in the composition is about 80% or less, and wherein the non-ionic cellulose ether is characterized by a solution viscosity of less than about 50 cps at 25.degree.
