One exemplary system embodiment can include a link detection logic configured to determine a link status of the network connection where the link status includes an online state and an offline state. An offline logic can be configured to allow the application to continue operating when the network connection is in the offline state by redirecting network communications sent from the application and storing the network communications in a post data store. The offline logic can be configured to submit the network communications from the post data store to the remote device when the link status changes to the online state.

Techniques for interacting with a client process on a mobile device connected to a network over a wireless link includes managing information at a mobile applications server executing on a platform connected to the network. The information includes device profile information about the mobile device. First data is received from an application. The first data describes graphical elements for display on the mobile device. It is determined whether the first data exceeds a capacity of the mobile device based on the device profile information. If it is determined that the first data exceeds the capacity, then a subset of the first data is formed that does not exceed the capacity of the mobile device. The subset of the first data is sent to the client process. If it is determined that an external converter does not convert using a particular format, then a first description of graphical elements is converted internally into a second description using the particular format. Second data including the second description is sent to the client process. These techniques allow network-based services to be made readily available to a wide range of mobile devices without having to explicitly program each application for providing one or more network-based services to support all forms of mobile devices.

A hierarchical network infrastructure includes an interface that allows a user to define a management hierarchy between a plurality of edge processors. Input is received via the interface designating a management node and a first set of relationships between the management mode and at least one edge processor. A management hierarchy between the management node and the at least one edge processor is generated based on the first set of relationships. Using the management hierarchy, telemetry information can be relayed, hosts can be managed, and the software running on then, and information can be configured to trickled up the chain. Each sub tree of the management hierarchy may have different Access Control for local administrators.

One exemplary system embodiment can include a web browser executable within a computing device and configured to communicate with a network device using a network connection. The web browser can be configured to at least display web pages where the web pages include data parameters. The system can also include a parameter passing logic configured to cause selected parameters from the data parameters to be stored locally in a parameter data store and be selectively retrieved from the parameter data store to cause the selected parameters to be available between multiple web pages without using a cookie.

In particular, techniques are provided in which the data coming out of a database application is formatted into Extended Markup Language (XML). The XML is the same regardless of which client is to receive the data. Prior to supplying the data to a client, the Extended Style Sheet (XSL) is applied to the data to format the data into the format required by the client.

The application executes on a second platform connected to the network. Both the first and second platforms are distinct from the mobile device. These techniques free the developers of applications for wireless mobile devices from the responsibility for managing their session state information. This greatly simplifies and accelerates the development of applications.

The information includes first data describing a graphical element for display on the mobile device. The first data also includes a first reference to the graphical element and a second reference to a page associated with requesting a service from a first application. Second data, based on the first data, is sent to the client process for rendering the graphical element on the mobile device. The second data includes the first reference. Third data is received indicating the first reference in response to a user of the mobile device selecting the graphical element. In response to receiving the third data, the page from the first application is requested based on the second reference. This page by page navigation leaves more room in the limited memory of the mobile device to present the user with more options than is often possible using either cookies or URLs with parameter information, as in the conventional approaches.

The first message indicates a first action by a user of the mobile device. The first action is related to a first graphical element displayed on the device for requesting a service from an application. Based on the first message, it is determined whether the action is associated with an event type of a plurality of predetermined event types. If it is determined the action is not associated with the event type, then, without invoking any method of the application, first data is generated. The first data describes any change in the first graphical element. The first data is sent to the client process for changing the display of the first graphical element.
