A method, computer program product, and system for the staged integration of a remote entity and the simultaneous publishing of services is provided. The integration of the distributed remote entities is broken into five stages, with appropriate events published after each stage. Each of the five stages is initiated only if the previous stage completed successfully. The first stage is the initiate discovery phase. The first event is the discovery start event. The second stage is the discovery completed phase. The second event is the discovery completed event. The third stage is the basic software services verified phase. The third event is the basic software verification completed event. The fourth stage is the basic hardware services verified phase. The fourth event is the basic hardware verification completed event. The fifth stage is the extended hardware services verified phase. The fifth event is the full integration of disturbed entity event.

Staged integration of distributed system and publishing of remote services

A method and apparatus for determining connections among functional components within a computer system are disclosed. A rule table for describing all interconnections among the components within a computer system is initially constructed. The rule table includes a source functional unit column and a destination functional unit column. A row within the rule table is interrogated to determine if the computer system contains an actual source functional component and an actual destination functional component, according to the respective entries stored within the row. In response to the computer system contains an actual source functional component and an actual destination functional component, a source functional component object is logically connected to a destination functional component object within a hardware object table. The source functional component object corresponds to the actual source functional component, and the destination functional component object corresponds to the actual destination functional component.

Method and apparatus for providing connection information of functional components within a computer system

Certain elements in the scan dump performed at system failure have become so large that a header field which indicates the size of the element is itself too small. Rather than increase the size of the field, affecting numerous other programs, the elements are broken down into smaller pieces by the write routine, which can recursively call itself.

Handling oversized rings through recursive calls

An improved process for executing a dump is provided. The iteration loops are made 'smart' by allowing them to determine how big the arrays are on the fly and adjust their behavior accordingly. The process uses a function to calculate the amount of memory to allocate for the dump list based on the dump mode and array sizes. Thus, if the static arrays are modified to add or delete constants or the diagnostic code is in an abbreviated dump mode, the amount of memory to be allocated will be calculated accurately.
