Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may support multiple radio access technologies (RATs). The UE may communicate using both a Long Term Evolution (LTE) connection for control signaling and a New Radio (NR) connection for data signaling in a non-standalone (NSA) mode. However, if the UE uses a data rate below a threshold, the NR connection may be inefficient. To reduce processing overhead, the UE may fall back to using the LTE connection for data communications. For example, the UE may delay or abort adding an NR connection based on the data rate. In some examples, the UE may transmit a fake report or a fake uplink message to trigger dropping an NR connection. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may indicate a preferred mode of operation to the network indicating a preference for communicating data via an LTE connection.

Methods and systems for controlling a portable computing device ('PCD') are disclosed. In an example method, an always on processor (AoP) of a voice recognition module of the PCD receives a voice command. The AoP determines, without decoding the received voice command, that the received voice command corresponds to a previously determined keyword. The AoP retrieves context data associated with the previously determined keyword. The AoP acts on the voice command using the context data, including in some embodiments automatically triggering a fast dormancy of a communications channel.

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a methods and systems operable by a network entity for wireless communication, that includes determining that User Equipment (UE) is in idle mode and receiving eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service); and based on the determining, activating a power optimization procedure in order to reduce power consumption of the UE. Examples of a power optimization procedures include a single or multi-level hardware shut down procedure, lowering the clock rate of hardware, and shutting down a communication bus during periods of non-use.

Systems and methods to optimize power consumption for LTE eMBMS

Techniques for dynamically determining a target setup time based on paging performance are described. A UE in an idle mode may be assigned paging occasions, which are specific time intervals in which the UE might receive paging messages. The UE may wake up a setup time prior to each paging occasion, perform setup tasks, detect for a paging indicator, and possibly receive a paging message. The UE may dynamically determine a target setup time for each awake interval based on paging performance. The target setup time may be (i) decreased by a down step if the paging performance is better than a first threshold or (ii) increased by an up step if the paging performance is worse than a second threshold. The target setup time may be updated in each fixed update period or whenever the paging performance is outside the first and second thresholds.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for activity control in a wireless communications device

An access terminal () reacquires a system frame number (SFN) when a difference between a continuous counter elapsed time () and a calculated elapsed time () exceeds a threshold. The continuous counter elapsed time () is generated by a continuous counter () remaining active during a sleep state of the access terminal () and the calculated elapsed time () is based on a SFN derived from a counter value generated by a discontinuous counter () that is deactivated during the sleep state. In one aspect, the continuous counter () may be clocked by a continuous clock () during a sleep mode and the discontinuous counter () may be clocked by a faster clock () that is deactivated during the sleep mode. During reactivation after the sleep mode, the discontinuous counter () is set, at the counter set time, to a reset counter value () corresponding to an SFN indicated by the continuous counter ().
