An energy storage system is disclosed. The energy storage system includes an insulated housing defining an interior chamber, a battery disposed within the interior chamber of the insulated housing, a cooling system configured to manage a temperature of the interior chamber of the insulated housing, and a temperature controller communicatively coupled to the cooling system and comprising at least one processor in communication with at least one memory device. The at least one processor is configured to determine a reference current level at the battery, compute, based on the reference current level, a target temperature for the interior chamber of the insulated housing, and instruct the cooling system to maintain the temperature in the interior chamber of the insulated housing at the target temperature.

A combustion liner is disposed within the diffusion chamber and defines a combustion chamber the combustion liner is spaced apart from the casing such that a passageway is defined between the combustion liner and the casing. A fuel cell assembly is disposed in the passageway. The fuel cell assembly includes a fuel cell stack that has a plurality of fuel cells each extending between an inlet end and an outlet end. The inlet end receives a flow of air and fuel and the outlet end provides output products to the combustion chamber. The fuel cell assembly further includes an electrical circuit that is electrically coupled to the plurality of fuel cells and that extends through the casing.

A porous electrolyte structure for a solid state battery is provided. The porous electrolyte structure has an interconnected ceramic matrix with a network of open pores disposed throughout a thickness of the porous electrolyte structure. The porous electrolyte structure includes a porosity of about 20% by volume to about 80% by volume. A solid state battery cell including the porous electrolyte structure and a method of making the solid state battery cell are also provided.

An engine assembly includes a combustor, a fuel cell stack integrated with the combustor, and a pre-burner system fluidly connected to the fuel cell stack. The fuel cell stack is configured to direct fuel and air exhaust from the fuel cell stack into the combustor. The pre-burner system is configured to control a temperature of an air flow directed into the fuel cell stack. The combustor is configured to combust the fuel and air exhaust from the fuel cell stack into one or more gaseous combustion products that drive a downstream turbine. The engine assembly can further include a catalytic partial oxidation convertor that is fluidly connected to the fuel cell stack. The catalytic partial oxidation convertor is configured to develop a hydrogen rich fuel stream to be directed into the fuel cell stack.

An electric machine includes a rotor assembly having a rotor core that extends in an axial direction and a stator assembly surrounding and coaxial with the rotor assembly. The stator assembly includes a stator core having slots extending in a radial direction into an inner surface of the stator core and extending axially from a first end surface to a second end surface of the stator core. The stator assembly includes stator coil windings disposed within the respective slots of the stator core and a first electrically insulating conformal coating disposed between the stator core and the stator coil windings. The conformal coating includes a polymer matrix impregnated with an effective amount of thermally conductive ceramic materials, above a percolation threshold, that form continuous thermal pathways across a thickness of the first coating.

The article includes one or more ceramic insulators having a plurality of recesses including a first portion having a first set of recesses of the plurality of recesses and a second portion having a second set of recesses of the plurality of recesses. At least a portion of a first conductor and at least a portion of a first cooling channel are overlappingly disposed in a recess of the first set of recesses. At least a portion of a second conductor and at least a portion of a second cooling channel are disposed in at least one recess of the second set of recesses wherein the at least a portion of the second cooling channel offsets from the at least a portion of the second conductor. A system including the article is also presented.

A method includes forming one or more cores, wherein each of the one or more cores has a cross section corresponding to a conductor to be subsequently formed, forming an insulator around the one or more cores, removing the one or more cores to expose one or more recesses within the insulator, and forming one or more conductors in at least one of the one or more recesses of the insulator such that the cross sections of the one or more conductors conform to an interior surface of the one or more recesses in the insulator.
