An electric machine is provided herein that includes a stator assembly. The stator assembly includes a stator core having one or more lamination packages. The stator core can define an outer ring and a plurality of teeth extending from the outer ring. A cooling plate may be positioned adjacent to at least one of the one or more lamination packages. The cooling plate can define one or more channels therethrough. One or more windings can be arranged around one or more of the plurality of teeth of the stator core. A rotor can be operably coupled with the stator assembly. A cooling system can be fluidly coupled with the one or more channels of the cooling plate. The cooling system provides a cryogenic fluid through the one or more channels to cool the electric machine.

Electric machine

A rotor is disclosed, which includes a plurality of axially extending slots disposed about the rotor; a plurality of conductors radially stacked within each of the axial slots; and an axially extending subslot at a radially inward end of each of the slots. In each slot, a cooling path is provided, extending radially outward from the subslot. The cooling path includes at least one manifold, each manifold including at least one ingress passage, at least one egress passage axially distanced from the ingress passage, and a plurality of axially extending passages in fluid connection at a first end with one of the at least one ingress passages, and at a second end with one of the at least one egress passages. Each of the plurality of axially extending passages is disposed at a different radial depth in the slot from each other axially extending passage.

Rotor with cooling manifolds

An approach for cooling a stator core flange is provided. In one aspect, a pair of stator flanges each disposed at opposing ends of a stator core assembly maintains a compressive load on the stator core assembly. Heat transport tubes may be located about at least one of the stator flanges at an end of the stator core assembly to redistribute heat therefrom.

A turbine bucket and cover assembly includes a bucket having a shank portion and an airfoil portion separated by a platform portion; and a bucket cover arranged on a sloped radially outer tip of the airfoil portion, the bucket cover having a radially inner surface matching the sloped edge and a radially outer surface lying in a plane parallel to a longitudinal axis of a rotor on which the bucket is adapted to be mounted. A related method includes the steps of a) providing a bucket cover having substantially parallel radially inner and outer surface; b) removing material from the bucket cover so as to form a new radially outer surface defining an acute angle relative to the radially inner surface; and c) securing the bucket cover on the sloped airfoil tip of the turbine bucket such that the radially outer surface is substantially parallel to the turbine rotor axis.

Variable thickness turbine bucket cover and related method

A method for sealing between a rotary component and a stationary component. The method including positioning a seal assembly having a plurality of teeth adjacent the stationary component and positioning a packing surface to interface with the rotary component. The packing surface at the rotary component includes at least one step that has an axial width that is approximately equal to a distance the rotary component axially shifts relative to the stationary component during transition from startup to steady state operating conditions.

Method and apparatus to facilitate reducing turbine packing leakage losses

A bucket cover includes circumferentially disposed arcuate cover segments each having discrete arcuate inner, intermediate and outer cover elements for spanning the tips of a plurality of turbine buckets. Each segment includes circumferentially spaced radial openings through the elements for receiving the tenons at the bucket tips. The intermediate element has a cavity or recess formed between circumferentially spaced webs which define the openings through the intermediate element for weight reduction purposes. In final assembly, the tips of the tenons are automatically peened to retain the elements on the buckets and excess material is machined to provide a smooth, continuous arcuate, circumferentially extending outer surface. The cavities are bounded by the webs, forward and rear end walls and the inner and outer surfaces of the outer and inner elements, respectively.
