This disclosure provides a system by which content/service providers can enable gaze-responsive advertisement/targeted content mechanisms for CPE devices like STB's/OTT streaming devices or systems or display devices. The system creates a new opportunity for content/service providers to advertise and helps in generating revenue. The system leverages using gaze-based technology in CPE devices like STB's or large display devices. A gaze-based algorithm helps the CPE devices to locate the viewer point of attention, using which gaze-responsive advertisement/content targeting can be achieved. The disclosure provides an end to end solution—from content creation to content consumption for gaze-responsive advertisement/media delivery.

Gaze-responsive advertisement

An apparatus, method, and computer-readable recording medium perform client access point assignment of a network device in a wireless network. The wireless network is configured to communicatively interconnect the gateway device, one or more wireless extenders, and one or more client devices. The gateway device includes a network controller, a non-transitory memory storing a program, and a communication interface configured to establish communication connections with the one or more client devices and the one or more wireless extenders via the wireless network. The network steers for a first client device, transmits a distance query to each of the one or more wireless extenders regarding the first client, receives distance responses from each of the one or more wireless extenders regarding the first client, and prepares a candidate steering list for the first client.

Wi-Fi home network controller steering using FTM requests

Wireless devices (clients) connect to different access points (AP) in a wireless network. The wireless network may determine that based on, for example, congestion of certain APs that a client should be steered away from a current AP. Steering may be conducted utilizing BSS transition management (BTM) messages to provide the client with a list of network-preferred APs for a transition. Clients may also have one or more preferred APs and may reject the BTM steering message if it does not include at least one client-preferred AP. To prevent rejection of the BTM message, at least one client-preferred AP may be added to the BTM message. To ensure the client is steered to a network-preferred AP, the client is blacklisted from connecting to the client-preferred AP until the client has been steered to a network-preferred AP.

Utilizing blacklist steering to prevent rejection of BSS transition management (BTM) steering

A method provides for encoding a frame of video using an edge map made up of one or more edge-blocks detected in the frame. When the edge-blocks are contiguous, at least one slice partition is formed using the edge-blocks and the slice partition is encoded using a sample adaptive offset (SAO) filter, wherein the slice partition is formed with an adaptive slice width, and the sample adaptive offset (SAO) filter is turned on or off during the encoding based on whether the edge-blocks are being encoded. When the edge-blocks are not contiguous, edge-block processing is performed around edges in the frame during encoding of the edge-blocks. The edge-block processing involves configuring one or more of: an intra block size, a transform block size, an inter prediction block size, a quantization parameter, candidate modes for intra prediction, pyramid level for motion estimation, and fractional pixel motion estimation search.

Region specific encoding and SAO-sensitive-slice-width-adaptation for improved-quality HEVC encoding

A method is provided for decoding an encoded video stream on a processor having a plurality of processing cores includes receiving and examining a video stream to identify any macroscopic constructs present therein that support parallel processing. Decoding of the video stream is divided into a plurality of decoding functions. The plurality of decoding functions is scheduled for decoding the video stream in a dynamic manner based on availability of any macroscopic constructs that have been identified and then based on a number of bytes used to encode each block into which each picture of the video stream is partitioned. Each of the decoding functions is dispatched to the plurality of processing cores in accordance with the scheduling.

Content aware scheduling in a HEVC decoder operating on a multi-core processor platform

The gateway includes a data communication component that can communicate with each of the n access points, and an AP/C management component that can generate a NAC report request, generate an issue request, and generate a steering instruction. The data communication component can further transmit the NAC report request to the n access points. The data communication component can further transmit the issue request to the client device. The AP/C management component can generate the steering instruction based on n non-associated NAC reports. The data communication component can further transmit the steering instruction to the client device.

A method is provided for determining a context-index when performing Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding (CABAC) for video compression or decompression includes initializing to an initialized value each of a plurality of context-indexes of chosen syntax elements associated with a given block (e.g., a macroblock). The context-index of dependent neighboring blocks of the given block is evaluated. The dependent neighboring blocks are blocks that have a context-index that depends on coding of a current bin position. The context-index of the dependent neighboring blocks is updated if and only if their context-index changes from the initialized values.

Acceleration of context adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) in video codecs

Managing an association of a wireless device to an access point of a wireless network is disclosed. Probe requests are received from the wireless device at access points within the wireless network. The probe requests are forwarded from the access points to a network controller. The network controller selects an access point to connect the wireless device to, based on information available thereto. The selected access point is informed that it has been selected. A probe response is provided to the wireless device from the selected access point.

BTM steering is preferable but not all wireless devices support it so blacklist steering is utilized unless it is known that the wireless device supports BTM steering. Wireless devices do not always indicate they support BTM steering in same manner. BTM steering primer messages are utilized when a wireless device is in line for steering to determine whether BTM steering is supported.

A method and system is provided for encoding video data according to target decoding device complexity. One embodiment is evidenced by a method of encoding video data for decoding on a target decoding device having parallel processing, comprising: receiving uncoded video data, computing a relationship between each of a plurality of encoding parameters and target decoding device decoding costs, selecting encoding parameters to minimize encoding costs, wherein the encoding costs include the target decoding device decoding costs, and encoding the uncoded video data according to the selected encoding parameters.

A method is provided for tagging a quality metric in adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming, which allows a client to intelligently select a variant bitrate stream using the tagged quality metric. The method includes encoding multiple streams of video data at variant bitrates, each bitrate stream having a plurality of chunks, computing a quality metric for each chunk of each stream, and tagging the quality metric with each chunk of each stream.

A method is provided for encoding a digital video with a video encoder that allows intra prediction of mode selection. The method includes dividing pixels from each intra prediction block into four groups based on phases of the pixels, progressively narrowing down a list of intra prediction modes over a series of stages based on a comparison of a cost value for each intra prediction mode at that stage against a threshold value, tentatively assigning the remaining intra prediction with the lowest cost value after the final stage to the block, calculating a heterogeneity index for each group of contiguous intra prediction blocks based on the tentative intra prediction mode selected for each block after the final stage, and finalizing the tentative intra prediction mode for each block if the group has a heterogeneity index above a predetermined threshold value.
