The innovation supports the ability to map alpha characters entered directly into the dialer application of a smartphone. These alpha characters can be entered via a smartphone keyboard (e.g., QWERTY keyboard) and converted to the appropriate digits as mapped to a conventional telephone keypad. The resultant numerical digits can be used to prompt a network call. Additionally, the innovation can be used during an active call to respond to prompts that traditionally require 12-key mappings. This innovation allows a user to both dial a number directly via a smartphone keyboard, and filter contacts by name, in a non-modal manner.

Alpha character support and translation in dialer

A declared origin policy may be provided. First a plurality of records comprising addresses that an application is allowed to access may be received. The received plurality of records may be placed in a manifest. Then, a request containing an address may be received and compared to the plurality of records in the manifest. Access to the address may be allowed when one of the plurality of records in the manifest matches the address or when an ambiguity is encountered as to whether the one of the plurality of records in the manifest matches the address. Access to the address may be denied when none of the plurality of records in the manifest matches the address. Moreover, any request to change any of the plurality of records in the manifest may be denied when the application is updated, uninstalled, or reinstalled.

Declared origin policy

A system for data communication is disclosed. The system comprises a detection module that ascertains when a mobile wireless communication device is located within a first range of a data source. The system further comprises a data module that automatically sends information to the mobile wireless communication device when the mobile wireless communication device is within the first range. Methods of using the system are also disclosed.

Mobile device synchronization based on proximity to a data source

Synchronization of a group of mobile devices so that each mobile device substantially simultaneously and synchronously plays a selected piece of content (e.g., a compressed music file). Implementations can selectively allow mobile devices to transfer content and control information via a wireless connection such as a Bluetooth connection. Via this data transfer, each mobile device can be synchronized with respect to content to be played and the timing of the playback. Each of the users of the group of mobile devices can have a personal experience (i.e., experiencing the playback without disturbing people that are not part of the group), but at the same time share the experience with the other users of the group. For example, users can experience a musical performance in a public place that no one but themselves can hear.
