A glass manufacturing apparatus includes a delivery apparatus defining a travel path extending in a first travel direction. The delivery apparatus conveys a stream of molten glass along the travel path. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a first forming roll and a second forming roll spaced to define a gap that provides a glass ribbon with a width and a thickness. One or more of the first forming roll or the second forming roll include a textured feature that imparts a corresponding textured feature to the glass ribbon. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a mold defining a mold cavity. The mold is positioned to receive a portion of the glass ribbon to impart a shape to the portion. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a conveyor that moves the mold in a second travel direction angled relative to the first travel direction. Methods of manufacturing a glass ribbon are provided.

Glass-ceramic containers and methods of making glass ceramic containers with high transparency and fracture toughness suitable for use as, for example a beverage or food container, such as for example, a baby bottle or personal hydration bottle. The glass ceramic containers may have an average wall thickness in the range of 1 mm to 2.5 mm and a fracture toughness of 1 MPa*m{circumflex over ( )}½ or more.

Provided herein are measurement systems including a micrometer assembly for receiving a length of tubing, the micrometer assembly including a plurality of non-contact optical micrometers disposed around the length of tubing for measuring an outer diameter (OD) at a first plurality of positions along a circumference of the length of tubing. The measurement system may further include a displacement gauge assembly for receiving the length of tubing from the optical micrometer assembly, the displacement gauge assembly including a plurality of non-contact gauges disposed around the length of tubing for measuring a wall thickness at a second plurality of positions along the circumference of the length of tubing. A controller receives the OD measurements and thickness measurements, and determines an inner diameter and a concentricity of the length of glass tubing based on an index of refraction of the length of glass tubing, the OD measurements, and the thickness measurements.

A laminated or single layer glass cylinder and its method of making are disclosed. The laminated cylinder glass is a precursor component to enable making subsequent drawn tubing having high optical quality. The laminated cylinder glass may comprise a first layer of glass as a clad glass and a second layer of glass as a core glass. The second layer of glass may be bound to the first layer of glass. The second layer may have a higher CTE from about 5&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. to about 100&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. than the first layer of glass. The first layer and second layer of glass may have different softening points within about 200&#xb0; C. of each other. In some embodiments, the first layer and second layer of glass may have different softening points from about 50&#xb0; C. to about 200&#xb0; C. of each other.

A method for severing a glass sheet includes preferentially heating a region of the glass sheet to form a softened region. A slit is formed in the softened region of the glass sheet to form a slit region. The slit extends at least partially into a thickness of the glass sheet. Heat is preferentially applied to the slit region of the glass sheet.
