A unitary, 'hollow out' piston is molded or forged with only two tools, which move along a single parting direction, with a pair of arcuate side walls that provide maximal outer surface area with minimal thickness and weight. The thin walls are internally fortified by a cruciform support structure that is molded integrally by the same tools. No post forming machining steps are needed to reduce weight.

The subject invention improves the electrical connection in a clutch assembly for engaging a compressor in a vehicle air conditioning system. In accordance with the subject invention, a tab extends from the mounting plate and the second end of the ground lead is frictionally retained between the tab and the core winding housing. This is accomplished by turning a tab out of the plane of a mounting plate, placing the second end of the ground lead under the tab and bending the tab downwardly to clamp the second end of the ground lead between the tab and the core winding housing to frictionally retain the second end of the ground lead between the tab and the core winding housing.

An automotive radiator has an integrated air-liquid cooled oil cooler incorporated directly into the radiator core and header tanks. A pair of nested oil cooler tubes, nested in a general U shape, has parallel upper and lower lengths running through the top and bottom of the basic core, spaced within the same header plates as the standard coolant tubes. Intermediate parallel lengths of the oil cooler tubes run through the center lengthwise of one longer header tank. A shorter header tank allows the upper and lower lengths of the oil cooler tubes to run through its header plate with clearance from its tank ends.

A secondary connector block of the type that is used to reinforce a port through a thin wall so that a mating primary connector block which has a bolt hole offset to the side of a refrigerant line can be used to connect the line concentrically to the port. The secondary connector block consists of a completely cylindrical base with an intermediate annular groove circling its outer surface. The base can be turned on a lathe, since it is completely symmetrical about its axis. The base is first welded concentrically to the port, which is easily done, since no part of the base overhangs the surface of the wall. The side lobe which contains the bolt hole that aligns with the primary block is attached later by a pair of bendable legs that are formed around and into the groove. The legs may be wide enough to fit very tightly into the groove, in which case the side lobe is first turned to the orientation that aligns the bolt holes. Or, the legs may be made slightly narrower, giving enough clearance in the groove to allow the side lobe to be turned to the proper orientation later. In that case, bolting the blocks together acts to slightly tilt the side lobe and lock it tightly in position.
