A method and system for analysing a condition of a pipeline in real time is disclosed. The method and system comprise generating a transient pressure wave in fluid carried along the pipeline and detecting a transient pressure wave interaction signal responsive to the transient pressure wave where the pressure wave interaction signal has a time duration corresponding to a region of interest of the pipeline. The method and system further includes processing the transient pressure wave interaction signal to analyse the region of interest of the pipeline.

A method and system for real time monitoring of the condition of a pipeline is disclosed. The method comprises continuously monitoring transient pressure information of a fluid in the pipeline, selecting a time window of transient pressure information and processing the time window of transient pressure information to detect an anomaly in the pipeline.

A method and system for assessing the condition of a pipeline in a pipeline system is disclosed. The method includes generating a pressure wave in the fluid being carried along the pipeline system at a pressure wave generating location along the pipeline system and detecting pressure wave interaction signals at two closely spaced measurement locations along the pipeline. The method then includes determining a system response function for the pipeline based on the detected pressure wave interaction signals for each measurement location and characterising the pipeline based on the system response function.

A method and system for assessing the condition of a pipeline in a pipeline system is disclosed. The method includes generating a pressure wave in the fluid being carried along the pipeline system at a generation location along the pipeline system, detecting a first pressure wave interaction signal at a first measurement location along the pipeline system resulting from an interaction of the pressure wave with localised variations in the pipeline and then detecting synchronously a second pressure wave interaction signal at a second measurement location along the pipeline system resulting from the interaction of the pressure wave with localised variations in the pipeline. The method then involves comparing the first and second pressure wave interaction signals to determine a location of individual features in the first and second pressure wave interaction signals with respect to the generation location, the individual features corresponding to pressure wave reflections from localised variations in the pipeline and characterising the individual features to assess the condition of the pipeline.

Method and system for pipeline condition analysis

A method and system for assessing the condition of a pipe carrying a fluid is disclosed. The method includes the steps of generating a pressure wave in the fluid being carried along the pipe and detecting a pressure wave interaction signal resulting from an interaction of the pressure wave with a localized variation in pipe condition. The method then involves determining from the timing of the pressure wave interaction signal the location of the localized variation in pipe condition and the extent of the localized variation in pipe condition based on a characteristic of the pressure wave interaction signal.
