The apparatus comprises of an elongated hollow polymeric structure with a distal end and a proximal end, an opening near the distal end, a main body attached to the polymeric structure means to move the polymeric structure, means to generate fluid flow through the opening, means to measure a flowrate of the fluid flow through the opening; and an element embedded in the polymeric structure, wherein the element is configured to detect when the polymeric structure contacts an object and measures the force that the object exerts upon the polymeric structure.

This invention generally relates to an integrated 'lab-on-a-Pipette'&#x2122; which will provide sample-to-answer single cell genetic diagnosis for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and other forms of single cell analysis (SCA). SCA is a quickly growing field with substantial impact in prenatal testing, cancer biopsies, diabetes, stem cell research, and our overall understanding of heterogeneity in biology. However, single cell genetic analysis is challenging, inaccurate, and in many cases impossible, due to the small amount of sample (5 pg), and difficulties in handling small sample volumes (50-100 pL). The 'lab-on-a-pipette' device integrates a microaspiration tip with microfluidic analysis components to conduct in-situ, real-time single cell genetic diagnosis in a single device. The microaspiration tip extracts and encapsulate a cell into an ultra-low volume plug (&#x2dc;300 pL).

The system of the present invention provides a vast improvement over the existing time consuming and expensive methods of collecting, compiling and physically sending documents required for school admissions and job placement. By storing all of the original documents in a centralized online database student and job seeker applicants can easily comply with a wide array of document support requirements simply by providing a link to the parties that are requesting the information.

This invention generally relates to sensors made of granular thin films in the discontinuous phase. More particularly, the invention relates to microbolometers and displacement sensors fabricated from thin films that are close to the metal insulator transition (MIT) or metal semiconductor transition (MST) regime. The present invention is a method for localized chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for localized growing for example for carbon nanotubes (CNT), nanowires, and oxidation using a heated tip or an array of heated tips to locally heat the area of interest. This invention addresses a contact mode hybrid scanning system (HSS), which can be used for measuring topography. The system consists of a cantilever or a cantilever array, a scanning stage, a light source, and instrumentation to synchronize and control the individual components. Detection of the cantilever's movement is achieved by directly measuring the change in disposition of the cantilever including its height, rotation at one or more points on the cantilever thereby providing a partial three-dimensional reconstruction without the need for actuating the cantilever. This is achieved by employing a displacement meter such as a triangulation meter or a confocal meter.
