A composition of matter comprising a mixture of (i) a sulfide of at least one promoter metal selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn and mixture thereof and mixtures thereof with Fe, (ii) an amorphous sulfide of trivalent chromium and (iii) microcrystallites of metal sulfide of a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and mixture thereof. These compositions have been found to be useful hydrotreating catalysts having nitrogen removal activity superior to that of commercial catalysts such as cobalt-molybdate on alumina.

Hydrotreating catalysts comprising a mixture of a sulfide of a promoter

A process for the hydrorefining of hydrocarbon feed to reduce the contents of sulfur and nitrogen compounds therein is disclosed which comprises contacting the hydrocarbon feed at elevated temperatures of at least about 150.degree. C. in the presence of hydrogen with a catalyst consisting essentially of mixture of (i) an amorphous sulfide of trivalent chromium and (ii) microcrystallites of metal sulfide of a metal selected from the group consisting of Mo, W and mixture thereof. These compositions have been found to be useful hydrotreating catalysts having nitrogen removal activity superior to that of commercial catalysts derived from cobalt molybdate on alumina.

Dual colloid catalyst compositions

A composition of matter comprising a mixture of (i) a sulfide of at least one promoter metal selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn and mixture thereof and mixtures thereof with Fe, (ii) an amorphous sulfide of trivalent chromium and (iii) microcrystalline of metal sulfide of a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and mixture thereof. These compositions have been found to be useful hydrotreating catalysts having nitrogen removal activity superior to that of commercial catalysts such as cobalt-molybdate on alumina.

A catalyst composition comprising an amorphous sulfide of trivalent chromium and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of (a) molybdenum, tungsten and mixture thereof and (b) mixtures of (a) with Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn and mixture thereof is prepared by heating one or more precursors at a temperature of at least about 200.degree. C. under oxygen-free conditions in the presence of a sulfur, wherein said precursor is selected from the group consisting of [Cr.sub.1-z M.sub.z LX.sub.y ](MoS.sub.4).sub.n, [Cr.sub.1-z M.sub.z LX.sub.y ](WS.sub.4).sub.n and mixtures thereof, wherein M is one or more divalent promoter metals selected from the group consisting of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and mixtures thereof, wherein L is one or more neutral nitrogen-containing ligands, wherein ligand X is a singly-charged anionic species and wherein 1&gt;z.gtoreq.0, 1-z.gtoreq.y.gtoreq.0, and wherein n equals (3-z-y)/2. These compositions have been found to be good hydroprocessing catalysts, particularly hydrotreating catalysts exhibiting a very high hydrodenitrogenation activity and/or selectivity in nitrogen and sulfur-containing hydrocarbon feeds.

Amorphous sulfide catalysts of trivalent chromium and promoter metals

A class of catalysts which exhibit superior activity maintenance in dehydrocyclization reactions are defined as a type L zeolite having exchangeable cations of which at least 75% are selected from Group IA and calcium and barium cations and containing well dispersed particles of at least one Group VIII noble metal where at least 90% of the noble metal prior to reduction thereof is dispersed in the form of particles having a diameter less than 7 .ANG.. The catalysts may also be identified as type L zeolites loaded with at least one Group VIII noble metal which have a terminal cracking index (as a measure of production of pentanes versus butanes from hexane) of at least 1.5.

The use of relatively stable iron carbonyl complexes e.g. Bis(dicarbonylcylopentadienyl iron), and lower melting cobalt carbonyl complexes, facilitates production of mixed metal catalysts for conversion of CO/H.sub.2 to alpha olefins. The decomposition of these materials can be achieved in a controlled manner resulting in an excellent alpha-olefin synthesis catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis processes.

Disclosed is a method for preparing dual colloid catalyst compositions wherein a gel, or colloidal suspension is formed by admixing (a) a 0.6 to 10M aqueous solution containing one or more soluble salts or complexes of one or more transition metals, wherein at least one of the transition metals is reducible and hydrolyzable, and one or more elements selected from Cr, Al, Si, Th, U, the lanthanides, and elements from Groups IA and IIA of the Periodic Table of the Elements, with (b) a 0.5 to 10N aqueous base solution. The solid material is separated from the resulting gel, or colloidal suspension and washed and dried.

Iron-cobalt spinels which contain low levels of cobalt, in an iron/cobalt atomic ratio of 7:1 to 35:1, are converted to Fischer-Tropsch catalysts upon reduction and carbiding that exhibit high activity and selectivity to C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 olefins and low CH.sub.4 production.

An endothermic or exothermic chemical reaction may be conducted whereby a flowable bed of magnetizable particles such as catalytic particles is subjected to an applied magnetic field, a reaction fluid is circulated through the bed under conditions so as to effect an exothermic or endothermic reaction, the bed of particles is circulated at a rate such that the temperature profile of the bed and reaction fluid throughout their entire contact in a reactor is at or about the temperature profile which results in maximization, at each point along the reactor, of at least one of: conversion, selectivity or product yield, and the desired reaction product is recovered. In a preferred embodiment the solids are transported countercurrently to the reaction fluid in the synthesis of ammonia. In another preferred embodiment the solids are transported cocurrently with the reaction fluid in the synthesis of ethylene oxide.

Process for conducting reactions using a circulating magnetically

Process for preparing a Fe-Co catalyst slurry system for alpha olefin

An improved catalyst for the synthesis of ammonia is described wherein a promoted iron-derived, pre-reduced catalyst is oxidatively leached with a neutral aqueous solution of potassium cyanide. Preferably an organic carboxylic acid such as citric acid is added to the aqueous solution to maintain the pH at about neutral. The resulting leached catalyst has a markedly higher activity than the unleached catalyst. The leached catalyst may be contacted with a cobalt complex or a nickel salt to incorporate cobalt or nickel therein which catalysts are also useful for ammonia synthesis.
