A mounting apparatus for mounting control circuitry to an air moving device includes, in at least one embodiment, one or more retaining members operable to retain control circuitry for the air moving device. Preferably, the apparatus also includes one or more mounting members enabling the coupling of the apparatus to a portion of an air moving device other than a hub. In a preferred embodiment, the dimensions of the mounting apparatus, as well as the control circuitry, are such that when an assembly comprising the mounting apparatus and the control circuitry is coupled to the air moving device, the assembly does not protrude beyond the volume of the air moving device.

A fan-securing device secures a fan to a heat transfer device that allows for the rapid removal of the fan without disturbing the remainder of the heat transfer device. The fan-securing device includes a base, a fastener for securing the body base to the heat transfer device, and compression tabs for securing the fan to the base.

A cooling fan apparatus includes a plastic housing and an electric fan. The housing containing the fan is mounted directly on the external surface of equipment being cooled. No separate mounting frame is utilized. The modular fan apparatus is on-line replaceable and is useful with other units to provide cooling fan redundancy. Preferably, a filtered electrical connector and a light emitting diode are integrated with the housing.

A clip fastener includes a base and a clip head that is distant from the base. The clip head includes a barb having a rounded outer surface including a ramp that increases in diameter towards the base. An elongate clip neck connects the base with the clip head. The clip neck has sufficient resilience under compressive forces exerted on the rounded outer surface of the barb to permit movement of the barb. The clip may be formed as an individual unit for use in fastening operations, or it may be molded into component structures, such as fan carriers for computer fans.
