Methods and systems for controlling a temperature of an electric energy storage device of via a cooling device are disclosed. In one example, a temperature of an electric energy storage device may be permitted to increase when a vehicle is within a threshold distance of an expected parking location of the vehicle so that less electrical energy of the electric energy storage device may be consumed.

Methods and system for thermal management of an electric energy storage device

An electrified vehicle may include an electric motor coupled to a battery to propel and brake the vehicle, a pedal generating a pedal position signal including a released position signal, friction brakes configured to provide a stopping force to vehicle wheels, and a controller programmed to control the motor and the brakes in response to the pedal being released to decelerate the vehicle to a stop, and to control the motor and an engine (in hybrid vehicles) to inhibit propulsive torque to the wheels after stopping due to the pedal released position until receiving driver input indicative of a request for moving the vehicle, such as depressing the brake or accelerator pedal, or activating an automated vehicle maneuver, such as a parking maneuver, cruise control, or stop-and-go control. Inhibiting torque may include inhibiting creep torque and/or operating the electric machine to charge the battery when the engine is running.

Electrified vehicle one pedal drive transition control

A method of operating a vehicle climate system includes, by a controller, responsive to a same blower motor request, operating a blower motor at a first speed responsive to a heater core isolation valve (HCIV) directing coolant used to heat a cabin to an engine. The method further includes, by the controller, responsive to the same blower motor request, operating the blower motor at a second speed less than the first speed responsive to the HCIV directing the coolant to an electric heater and not to the engine.

A vehicle includes friction brakes, an electronic park brake system, and controllers. The controllers, responsive to the vehicle coming to a stop, and the vehicle being on plug, a driver door of the vehicle being open, or a driver seatbelt being unbuckled, issue a standstill friction brake request for the friction brakes and an electronic park brake request for the electronic park brake system. The controllers also, responsive to engagement of the electronic park brake system, discontinue the issue of the standstill friction brake request.

A controller initiates operation of a climate system in advance of a departure time defined by a user such that the climate system operates for a duration defined by the user before the departure time, provided that grid power from a plug is not available to power the operation. The controller also initiates operation of the climate system at a start time selected by the controller such that a temperature within a cabin achieves a target temperature defined by the user in advance of the departure time and the climate system does not operate for a duration defined by the user before the departure time, provided that the grid power is available to power the operation.

A vehicle includes a traction battery, an electric machine powered by the traction battery and configured to power wheels of the vehicle, and a thermal-management system. The thermal-management system includes a battery loop, a cabin heating loop, and a valve configured to fluidly connect the battery loop and the cabin heating loop when in a first position and configured to fluidly isolate the battery loop and the cabin heating loop when in a second position. A controller is programmed to, responsive to (i) battery heating being requested, (ii) a temperature of the battery being greater than a lower threshold, and (iii) cabin heating being requested, actuate the valve to the first position to heat a cabin and the battery.

Balancing battery heating and cabin heating with shared thermal-management system

Methods and systems are provided for a battery thermal management system. In one example, a method includes increasing coolant to a battery above a currently demanded battery cooling in response to a predicted battery temperature exceeding a threshold temperature at an upcoming location.

Methods and systems for battery temperature management

A thermal system for an electrified vehicle including a thermal loop and a controller is provided. The thermal loop may include a rear evaporator and a compressor fluidly connected thereto, a conduit to distribute oil throughout the thermal loop, and an evaporator valve. The controller may be programmed to, responsive to receipt of a signal indicating evaporator valve shut-off and detection of a vehicle plug-in event, cycle the compressor to promote oil movement through the compressor. The controller may be further programmed to, responsive to receipt of the signal, open the evaporator valve to force oil back to the compressor. The thermal loop may further include a first expansion valve up stream of a chiller fluidly connected to the compressor, a second expansion valve between the evaporator valve and the rear evaporator, and a third expansion valve up stream of a front evaporator fluidly connected to the compressor.

Electrified vehicle refrigerant system

A vehicle climate control system includes a cooling system including a chiller, a coolant circuit, a refrigerant circuit, a pump, and a compressor. The coolant circuit bypasses the chiller. The refrigerant circuit incorporates the chiller. The pump is configured to move coolant through the coolant circuit. The compressor is configured to move refrigerant through the refrigerant circuit. The vehicle climate control system also includes a controller configured to, in response to a temperature of a battery exceeding a threshold while the pump is moving fluid through the coolant circuit, activate the chiller and the compressor.

Cooling modes to manage a high voltage battery for a vehicle

Responsive to a target charge level, a target charge completion time, and a maximum charge rate being sufficient to achieve the target charge level during an available charge duration defined by the target charge completion time, a controller charges the traction battery at a selected rate less than the maximum rate such that the traction battery continuously receives charge until occurrence of the target charge completion time and the traction battery achieves the target charge level at but not before the target charge completion time.

Vehicle direct current fast charging

A vehicle includes an electric machine, a battery, an accelerator pedal, a battery cooling system, and a controller. The electric machine is configured to propel the vehicle. The battery is configured to provide electrical power to the electric machine. The battery cooling system is configured to cool the battery in a plurality of cooling modes. A transition between cooling modes of the battery cooling system corresponds to either an increase or a decrease in battery power being utilized to cool the battery. The controller is programmed to truncate an acceleration request under certain conditions to prevent an increase in battery power output in order to reduce a rate at which the battery temperature increases and to prevent a transition to a cooling mode that requires an increase in battery power output.

Methods and systems are provided for operating a climate control system. In one example, a method for operating a vehicle climate control system includes modeling a pressure in a heat pump downstream of an exterior heat exchanger an upstream of an expansion valve. The method also includes operating the expansion valve to cool a vehicle cabin using the modeled pressure in conjunction with a temperature from a sensor positioned upstream of the expansion valve and downstream of the exterior heat exchanger.

Heat pump system and method for operating said system

A method of climate control in a vehicle includes cooling a battery and cabin of a vehicle at a target chiller-pump speed of a chiller. The target speed corresponds to a difference between a temperature of a battery and a target temperature of the battery. The target pump speed does not exceed a limit defined by a look-up table that identifies a capacity of the chiller by mapping the load and the difference.
