The present invention provides dry mix compositions for use in making gypsum plasters or mortars comprising gypsum, preferably, phosphorous gypsum one or more retarder, and one or more crosslinked cellulose ethers containing polyether groups. The compositions enable the provision of gypsum dry mixes, such as those from phosphorus gypsum, that make gypsum mortars with less stickiness while reducing the amount of cellulose ether in the dry mix.

A three-dimensionally printed article is comprised of a hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC) having a DS of 1.7 to 2.5 and an MS of at least 0.5, wherein DS is the degree of substitution of methoxyl groups and MS is the molar substitution of hydroxyethoxyl groups. The HEMC may advantageously be used as a support material when making a three-dimensionally printed article using a build material such as a different thermoplastic polymer such as a poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), polylactic acid, polyethylene and polyprophylene. When the HEMC is a support material it may be easily removed from the build material by contacting the three dimensionally printed article with water, which may be at ambient temperatures and a pH that is neutral or close to neutral.

A heat moldable composition which useful for preparing ceramic bodies comprises an inorganic material that sets as a result of baking or sintering, and a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose having a DS of at least 1.4 and an MS of at least 0.6, wherein DS is the degree of substitution of methoxyl groups and MS is the molar substitution of hydroxypropoxyl groups, and a viscosity of up to 80 mPa&#xb7;s, determined as a 2% by weight solution in water at 20&#xb0; C., wherein the heat moldable composition comprises at least 40 weight percent of the inorganic material and at least 10 weight percent of the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and wherein the composition does not comprise more than 5 weight percent of water, all percentages being based on the total weight of the composition.

A water-disintegratable non-woven sheet comprising fibers bound by a water-soluble cellulose ether can be produced laying fibers to a base sheet, b) contacting the base sheet with a water-based composition comprising a water-soluble cellulose ether having a viscosity of up 500 mPa&#xb7;s, measured as a 2 weight percent solution in water at 20&#xb0; C. using a Haake Viscotester VT550 with a cylinder system, cup MV, at 2.55 s, and c) drying the sheet which comprises fibers being bound by the water-soluble cellulose ether.
