A seal arrangement for a liner hanger, including a seal ring, a lock ring adjacent the seal ring, the lock ring including a body configured to limit radial compression of the seal ring, a wing extending from the body in an axial direction of the body, and a shoulder defined by the body, the shoulder complementary to a lock member. A method for assembling a seal arrangement, including positioning a lock ring on a tubular, positioning a seal ring on the tubular, repeating the positioning of a lock ring and the positioning of the seal ring until a selected number of lock rings and seal rings are alternatingly disposed on the tubular, and feeding a lock wire through a lock wire window to engage the tubular and the lock ring to retain the lock ring axially to the tubular.

Seal arrangement for a liner hanger, method, and system

A method for assembling a liner system including disposing from an uphole end of the liner a first slip subsystem, disposing from the uphole end of the liner a seal, and disposing from the uphole end of the liner a second slip subsystem.

Method for assembling a liner system

A running tool which includes a mandrel, a thread engager disposed upon the mandrel, a support supporting the thread engager in a first position and unsupporting the thread engager in a second position, and a torque dog sub including a torque dog, a lock dog, and lock dog sleeve disposed on the mandrel. A liner system which includes a liner system component, a running tool engaged with the liner component. Liner running tool, method, and system

A hanger system including an expandable liner, an expandable first slip subsystem disposed about the liner, an expandable second slip subsystem disposed about the liner, a seal disposed about the liner and between the first slip subsystem and the second slip subsystem, and an expandable lock ring disposed about the liner and against one of the first slip subsystem or the second slip subsystem. A method for lining a borehole including running a liner system into a borehole, landing the liner system in a liner hanger, expanding the first slip subsystem simultaneously with a portion of the liner, expanding the second slip subsystem simultaneously with another portion of the liner, and sealing the liner to the liner hanger between the first slip subsystem and the second slip subsystem with the seal. A borehole system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a casing in the borehole, and a liner system.

Liner system and method

Ratchet locking segments permit one direction relative movement and then prevent reverse movement to hold a set position of a tool. The segments are axially supported in a surrounding housing using an exterior profile on each segment meshing with a conforming profile on the outer housing. The meshing is loose to allow the segments the ability to move radially while supported axially. Biasing of opposed ratcheting segments toward each other is provided by a spring or springs at opposed axial ends of each segment or within the exterior profile between the axial ends. The end biasing can be done with coiled springs or bent tabs that store potential energy when assembled or with wave springs between the segment outer profile and a surrounding outer housing.

A shock absorbing device for a subterranean tool features a plurality of sequentially shearing shear pins that shear after incremental relative motion of the affected components. The travel stop is located internally to a series of spaced collets supported off a ring. Impact of an impact ring segments on the travel stop segments located internally to each collet provides a shock absorbing capability as the collets are placed in tension and deflect by radial flexing in opposed directions. The relatively moving parts are rotationally locked with the last of the shear pins to shear. A backup pair of contacting shoulders are provided if the primary engaging shoulders fail to support the lower end of the tool after impact. A snap ring maintains the parts in the shifted position after impact.

Energy absorption system for subterranean tool high impact loads

A liner hanger/packer apparatus operates by sequential expansion of a slip ring and then a sealing element. The hanger slips are set by pressure on a seated ball actuating anchor slips to grip followed by a stroker assembly and a swage making a first movement. The ball seat is defeated and the liner is cemented. A pickup force extends landing dogs so that a subsequent set down force releases a flapper to close and closes off fluid ports associated with the anchor slips so that pressure on the closed flapper sets the anchor and strokes the swage a second stroke to set the sealing element. A rupture disc breaks in the flapper after further relative movement of mandrel components to open the fluid displacement ports so that the anchor is in pressure balance to backpressure developed from fluid moving through the now broken disc as the running tool is removed.

A tool allows in a single trip advancing the liner while more hole is made until the liner is properly positioned. Slips are actuated into the inside of the liner to grasp it as a swage is released to move to support the liner to the surrounding tubular. With the liner supported in the hole, the running tool can be picked up to test the release feature and then set down again for cementing. The tool is then picked up higher to release a flapper and re-pressurized to set a seal adjacent the support previously engaged by swage operation. The flapper has a rupture disc blown and the tool is removed. The tool has an emergency release.

One trip liner running, cementing and setting tool using expansion

An expandable slip ring is used to secure attachment of an expanded tubular to a surrounding tubular. It features elongated generally axially oriented openings separated by narrow segments. As a swage is advanced within a tubular that has the slip ring outside it the narrow segments or tabs expand and can break but the ring is still held to its shape as the expansion progresses due to the integrity of other tabs that can subsequently break as the swage advances within the tubular that is surrounded by the slip ring. The integrity of the slip ring is enhanced for storage and run in while the expansion characteristics are more uniform as the ring retains some structural integrity during much of the expansion process.

Expandable slip ring

Tools for expanding downhole tubulars into each other or in open hole are disclosed. One embodiment uses a movable cone biased by Bellville washers to move longitudinally against such bias and allow collets to move radially in or out to a predetermined maximum diameter. A release system allows collet retraction to avoid hang up on removal. In an alternate embodiment, more suitable for open hole applications, pressurized gas pushes a movable cone longitudinally against the collets. A stationary cone is on the opposite side of the collets from the movable cone. The collet rides out or in between the cones and raises the gas pressure when forced in. A pressure actuated release allows the lower cone to shift downwardly to allow the collets to retract for removal.

Tubular expansion apparatus and method

A swaging tool is configured to drive the swage up a ramp until a series of dogs engages the inside wall of an outer tubular member. At that point the swage will be at the necessary position on the ramp to adequately expand the inner tubular for a proper supporting relation to the outer tubular. If the inside diameter of the outer tubular is at the high end of the tolerance allowed by API specifications, the diameter of the swage is increased to compensate. Similarly, if the inside diameter of the outer tubular is at the low end of the tolerance range of API specifications, then the dogs make contact with the inside wall sooner and the resulting diameter of the swage is necessarily smaller.
