A device includes a magnetic core adapted to couple to a tube through which an ionic fluid flows, the core coupled at two ends of the core to opposite sides of the tube. A set of windings is coupled to generate a magnetic field in the core such that the ionic fluid in the tube is subjected to a magnetic field between the two ends of the core coupled to the opposite sides of the tube. A set of electrodes is positioned to detect an electric field generated as a function of the ionic fluid flow and magnetic field in the tube.

Compact magnetic field generator for magmeter

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a measurement system that calculates a current in a conductor based on an odd-order spatial derivative function of signals representing magnetic-field strengths within a hole in the conductor. In an illustrative embodiment, the odd-order spatial derivative function may generate an output signal representing a spatial derivative of the in-hole magnetic field greater than the first-order. The three or more magnetic-field sensors may be configured to align on the hole's axis when inserted into the hole. When inserted into the hole, the sensors may be aligned on an axis perpendicular to a direction of current flow and be responsive to a magnetic-field directed perpendicular to both the direction of current flow and the aligned axis. Some embodiments may advantageously provide a precise measurement indicative an electrical current in the electrical conductor while substantially rejecting a stray magnetic field originating from an adjacent electrical conductor.

Stray magnetic field rejection for in-hole current-measurement systems

An energy harvester for harvesting energy from a rotating machine having a rotatable machine shaft includes a non-magnetic housing, a harvester shaft, a rotor, and a plurality of electrically isolated stators. The housing is adapted to couple to the rotating machine. The harvester shaft is disposed within the housing and is adapted to couple to and rotate with the machine shaft or in some cases becomes the rotating shaft of the machine. The rotor is disposed within the housing and is coupled to and surrounds at least a portion of the harvester shaft. The rotor comprises an N-pole permanent magnet. The plurality of stators are disposed within and coupled to the housing. Each stator surrounds the rotor and is spaced apart therefrom by an air gap. Each stator also has a set of windings wound thereon. Different numbers of stators could be operating together, whereas other stators are disconnected to extend the rotational speed range.

Energy harvester and rotating shaft vibration sensor

Apparatus and associated methods relate to an in-hole current-measurement system having three or more magnetic-field sensors and a transient-disturbance selection module configured to form an output signal from a selected subset of sensor signals while decoupling the output signals from a non-selected subset of sensor signals during a predetermined time window when a disturbance signal is expected at the non-selected set of sensor signals. In an illustrative example, a disturbance producing operation may be performed on alternating subsets of sensors while the undisturbed subset of sensors measures an electrical current in the electrical conductor. For example, each selected subset of sensors may be aligned on an axis configured to be mounted perpendicular to current flow within a hole in the electrical conductor. Some embodiments may advantageously provide continuous electrical current measurement while being uninterrupted by the predetermined transient disturbances.

A magnetic current sensor calibration system includes a plurality of sensors and a substrate. The substrate has a first surface and a second surface, and the sensors are mounted on the first surface. The substrate includes a bipolar calibration conductor and a unipolar calibration conductor. The bipolar calibration conductor is spaced apart from the plurality of sensors and is disposed between the first and second surfaces. The unipolar calibration conductor is spaced apart from the plurality of sensors and the bipolar calibration conductor, and is disposed between the first and second surfaces.

An electrical bus bar system () is provided for mounting a plurality of current sensor devices () in close proximity to each other, each of the current sensor devices () having a sense axis (). The system includes a plurality of elongate bus bars () extending along longitudinal axes () parallel to each other. The bus bars () are spaced from each other along a transverse axis () that extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axes (). Each bus bar has a current sensor mount portion () configured to mount one of the current sensor devices () with the sense axis () extending parallel to the transverse axis ().

Current sensor with stray magnetic field rejection

Devices for sensing current are described herein. One device includes a first magnetic sensor configured to determine a first magnetic field associated with a current conductor while the current conductor is conducting a current, a second magnetic sensor, a particular distance from the first magnetic sensor, configured to determine a second magnetic field associated with the current conductor while the current conductor is conducting the current, and a fastener configured to secure the current sensor to the current conductor such that the first and second magnetic sensors are on a plane substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the current conductor.

Devices for sensing current

A sensing system comprising a radar-based vibration sensor and processing unit used to collect and process vibration information from a machine of interest. The radar-based vibration sensor obtains vibration data from mechanical operation of a component or series of components in the machine, and may be steered toward specific regions of interest of the machine. The processing unit analyzes the data, and may fuse data from a plurality of vibration sensors, such as radar-based vibration sensors and multiple machine-mounted sensors such as accelerometers. From this analysis, indications related to a status of the mechanical operation of the components in the machine of interest may be provided to relevant users.

Condition based monitoring system based on radar sensor

A current bus that includes an opening that extends from one side of the current bus to an opposing side of the current bus. The opening changes in size as the opening extends from one side of the current bus to the opposing side of the current bus. The opening may include a first diameter and a second diameter that is different than the first diameter. The opening may include a first thickness at the first diameter of the opening which may be much smaller than a second thickness of the current bus. A high accuracy current measurement of the current bus may require that the magnetic field profile of the current bus within the opening be non-linear (e.g., 3rd order polynomial with the highest value of the 3rd degree coefficient).

Optimized current bus

An RF beam is used to probe the presence or absence of a rotating blade in a known field of view. Timing of appearance or disappearance or 'zero-crossing' of a reflected signal is correlated with timing of the blade movement. Blades which are leading or lagging versus other blades will produce different timing signatures representative of alignment of the blades.

A flow sensor includes a conduit and an ultrasonic transceiver. The conduit has an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface defines a flow passage through which a fluid may flow in a flow direction. The ultrasonic transceiver is coupled to, and surrounds a portion of, the outer surface of the conduit. The ultrasonic transceiver is configured to transmit ultrasonic waves into the fluid that propagate in a direction that is parallel to the flow direction, receive ultrasonic waves, and supply sensor signals representative of the received ultrasonic waves.

Ultrasonic flow sensor and method

A flow sensor includes a plurality of ultrasonic transceivers and signal processing circuitry. The transceivers are coupled to a portion of the outer surface of a duct, and each is configured to transmit ultrasonic waves into a fluid, receive ultrasonic waves, and supply sensor signals representative of the received ultrasonic waves. The signal processing circuitry is configured to supply separate excitation signals to each of the ultrasonic transceivers, receive the sensor signals supplied by each of the ultrasonic transceivers, and generate, in response to the sensor signals, a flow signal representative of fluid flow in the flow passage. Each of the excitation signals has a different phase, such that the ultrasonic waves transmitted by each of the ultrasonic transceivers at least selectively combine to propagate in an adjustable direction relative to the flow direction.

Ultrasonic air flow sensor

An antenna in a radar sensor is vibrated at a known frequency and velocity in a direction generally normal to the antenna surface. A response received by the antenna is used to scale or calibrate sensor responses at frequencies of interest.

Self-calibrating vibration sensor

A redundant non-contact switch reports a status as closed or open for a first member and a second member that move relative to each other between an open state and a closed state. In some embodiments, the redundant non-contact switch includes a wireless authentication (WA) pair and a magnetic pair. The WA pair may include a WA responder attached to one of the first member and the second member, and a WA interrogator attached to the other of the first member and the second member. The WA pair may be configured to register a WA status of closed or open, depending on a WA authentication between the WA responder and the WA interrogator. The magnetic pair may include a magnet attached to one of the first member and the second member, and a magnet sensor attached to the other of the first member and the second member. The magnetic pair may be configured to register a magnetic status of closed or open, depending on whether a magnet distance between the magnet and magnet sensor is beyond a threshold magnet distance. In some instances, the redundant non-contact switch reports the status as closed only if both the WA status is registered as closed and the magnetic status is registered as closed.
