Hydrogenation of benzene polycarboxylic acids or derivatives thereof

The present invention is directed to a process for hydrogenating one or more organic compounds especially unsaturated organic compounds by bringing the compound into contact with a hydrogen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst, which comprises one or more catalytically active metals applied to a porous catalyst support. The one or more catalytically active metals having been derived via a decomposed organic complex of the metal on the support, in particular amine complexes of the metal. The decomposed complex may be treated with hydrogen to activate the catalyst before use as a hydrogenation catalyst.

Hydrogenation processes

A process for hydrogenating benzenepolycarboxylic acids or derivatives thereof, such as esters and/or anhydrides, by bringing one or more benzenepolycarboxylic acids or one or more derivatives thereof into contact with a hydrogen-containing gas in the presence of one or more catalytically active metal, such as platinum, palladium ruthenium or mixtures thereof, deposited on a catalyst support comprising one or more ordered mesoporous materials.

A three-step process of removing sulfur from naphtha feeds. The steps include a first hydrotreating step, a mercaptan removal agent and an adsorbent containing a reactive metal on an inorganic support. Step one removes at least 95 wt. % of the sulfur compounds while preserving at least 50 wt. % of the olefins. Treatment with the mercaptan removal agent lowers the sulfur content to 30 wppm total sulfur and final naphtha product contains leas than 10 wppm total sulfur.

Process for removing sulfur from naphtha

The use of one or more alkali metals, preferably sodium, to remove sulfur from hydrocarbon streams containing up to about 100 wppm sulfur. The hydrocarbon stream is introduced into a reactor where it is contacted with one or more alkali metals. The treated hydrocarbon stream is then subjected to a water wash thereby resulting in an aqueous phase fraction and a hydrocarbon phase fraction. The aqueous phase fraction, which is separated from the hydrocarbon phase fraction contains water-soluble sodium moieties.

Method of removing sulfur from sulfur-containing hydrocarbon streams

This invention relates to supported multi-metallic catalysts for use in the hydroprocessing of hydrocarbon feeds, as well as a method for preparing such catalysts. The catalysts are prepared from a catalyst precursor comprised of at least one Group VIII metal and a Group VI metal and an organic agent selected from the group consisting of amino alcohols and amino acids. The catalyst precursor is thermally treated to partially decompose the organic agent, then sulfided.

Catalytic preparation of severely sterically hindered amino-ether alcohols using a metal loaded catalyst

Refractory or hard sulfur found in a hydrocarbon stream containing refractory sulfur heterocycle compounds, particularly those exhibiting steric hindrance, is removed from the stream by contacting it with a sodium reagent comprising a sodium component, having free sodium, supported on a solid support component. If the hydrocarbon stream contains more labile or easy sulfur, then it is treated, typically by hydrodesulfurization, to remove at least most of the labile sulfur before it is contacted with the sodium reagent. This is useful for bringing the sulfur level of middle distillate fuel streams, such as diesel and jet fuel fractions, down to a level of less than about 10 wppm, employing conventional hydrodesulfurizing catalysts and conditions.

A process for enhancing the activity of a catalyst metal particulate for hydrogenation reactions comprising calcining the particulate in an oxidant-containing atmosphere to partially oxidize it thereby forming a porous layer of oxides thereon, treating with an solution capable of oxidizing the calcined metal particulate and comprising a compound of a hydrogenation catalyst metal to where said metal particulate has absorbed a volume of solution equal to at least about 10% of its calculated pore volume and activating it by treatment with a hydrogen-containing gas at elevated temperatures thereby forming a dispersed active metal catalyst. Preferably, the treated particulate is calcined a second time under the same conditions as the first before final activation with a hydrogen-containing gas. The metal particulate is preferably sized after each calcination and any agglomerates larger than 250 microns are comminuted to a desired size.

Fischer-Tropsch catalyst production

Dispersed Active Metal catalyst for hydrogenation reactions is produced by treating a substantially catalytically inactive metal particulate with a solution capable of oxidizing the metal particulate and comprising of at least one compound of a hydrogenation catalyst metal thereby forming a layer of at least one of hydroxides and oxides thereon. The metal particulate is activated by treatment with a hydrogen-containing gas at elevated temperatures to form a porous layer of Dispersed Active Metal catalyst. Preferably, the treated metal particulate is dried prior to activation, and also preferably calcined in an oxidant-containing atmosphere prior to activation. The treatment solution may advantageously contain a compound of at least one promoter metal for the added catalyst metal. The porosity of the layer provides enhanced catalyst activity as well as improved methane selectivity in the Fischer-Tropsch process.

This invention provides a process for the synthesis of ZSM-12 using the N,N-dimethylhexamethyleneimine cation as a directing agent. The process enables ZSM-12 to be produced at silica/alumina molar ratios below 50 with little or no co-production of impurity phases. Small crystal forms of ZSM-12 can also be produced using the process of the invention.
