A model-based egress support system () employs models to generate an optimal egress route for occupants in a region. The system includes an egress controller () that is connected to receive detection data. The egress controller () executes an optimization algorithm () to select an egress route based on model-based egress estimates generated by an egress prediction model () in response to the detection data.

A method for estimating a heating/cooling load of a zone within a building may include determining a measured parameter from the zone, generating a reduced order thermodynamic model of the zone, generating an Extended Kalman Filter based on the thermodynamic model of the zone, and processing the measured parameter using the Extended Kalman Filter to estimate at least one unknown state of the zone, such as an estimated load. A similar method may be used to estimate a temperature in a cold room of a refrigeration system.

A method for controlling a temperature distribution within a combustor having a plurality of chamber sections comprising controlling a fuel-to-air ratio in the chamber sections.
