A touch screen display and corresponding devices and methods are disclosed, the touch screen display comprising a touchscreen having a plurality of capacitive sensors and a passive dial having one or more conductive elements, the passive dial mounted within an active area of the touchscreen such that the one or more conductive elements are proximate to the face of the touchscreen and move in conjunction with a rotation of the passive dial. The touch screen display may further include a touchscreen controller to detect an angle of the passive dial using conventional capacitive sensing techniques.

Systems and methods access a correction value in a correction matrix. The correction matrix defines an active region of a touch array that includes plurality of unit cells. The correction value corresponds to a unit cell of the plurality of unit cells. Systems and methods modify a touch sense value of the unit cell using the correction value, based on the unit cell being partially within the active region. Systems and methods detect an object using the touch array, based on the modified sense value.

Uniformity correction method for low cost and non-rectangular touch sensor matrices

A method includes storing a set of touch sense values corresponding to a measured characteristic of at least one unit cell of a plurality of unit cells of the touch array and accessing a correction matrix that defines an active region and an inactive region of the touch array. The inactive region is surrounded by the active region. The method further includes modifying touch sense values of a first subset of the plurality of unit cells that are partially within the active region defined by correction values of the correction matrix.

A correction matrix for use with non-rectangular touch arrays is described. In one embodiment, a sensing device may include a memory and a processing element coupled to the memory. The memory may store a set of touch sense values corresponding to a measured characteristic of at least one unit cell of plurality of unit cells of a non-rectangular touch array and may store a correction matrix. The correction matrix may define an active region and an inactive region of the non-rectangular touch array. The processing element may modify touch sense values of a subset of the plurality of unit cells that are not completely within the active region defined by correction values of the correction matrix.

Apparatuses and methods of glove touch detection are described. One method performs a first scan to detect an object proximate to a sense array. The first scan comprises a first sensitivity parameter. The method compares touch data from the first scan against a plurality of thresholds. The method performs a second scan to detect a touch event when the first scan's touch data exceeds a glove saturation threshold of the plurality of thresholds. The second scan comprising a second sensitivity parameter that is different than the first sensitivity parameter. The method reports a glove touch event when the first scan's touch data does not exceed the glove saturation threshold and exceeds a glove-reporting threshold of the plurality of thresholds.

Glove touch detection for touch devices

A method for improving noise immunity of capacitive sensing circuit associated with a touch sense array is disclosed. The capacitive sensing circuit receives a response signal from a touch sense array. The capacitive sensing circuit measures a noise component of the response signal. When a level of noise of the noise component within a passband of the capacitive sensing circuit is greater than a threshold, the capacitive sensing circuit changes at least one parameter of capacitive sensing circuit to move the passband substantially outside the frequency spectrum of the noise component.

Method and apparatus to improve noise immunity of a touch sense array

Methods and apparatus include receiving a current set of measurements of a touch sense array using a first functional block of a processing device and processing the current set of measurements using a second functional block to render a touch map corresponding to the touch sense array. The methods and apparatus include performing the next set of measurements using the first functional block. Performing the next set of measurements and processing the current set of measurement are performed substantially concurrently.

A touch sense controller configured to be coupled to a touch sense array is disclosed. The touch sense controller includes programmable logic that includes programmable logic elements configured to manage measurement of capacitance associated with the touch sense array.

Capacitive sensing with programmable logic for touch sense arrays

A parallel pipelining method of operation of a touch sense controller for processing data into a touch map is disclosed. A current full scan of response signals to at least one excitation of a touch sense array is received using a first thread of a processing device. The current full scan of response signals is processed using a second thread of the processing device to render a touch map corresponding to the touch sense array. A next full scan of response signals is received using the first thread. Receiving the next full scan and processing the current full scan are performed substantially simultaneously.
