A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product for collecting information from data sources by receiving a collection request at a collection tool to collect information, where the collection request includes data source information indicating a data source from which to retrieve the information. The data source information in the collection request is associated with one or more electronic data repositories in response to the data source indicated by the data source information being previously unidentified to the collection tool. The information is collected from the one or more associated electronic data repositories.

A method and system for playing web-based training content on a client computer system are provided. The method includes accessing previously downloaded web-based training content stored in a first memory coupled to the client computer system and playing a portion of the web-based training content on the client computer system while the client computer system is offline. The method further includes storing results associated with playing the portion of the web-based training content in a second memory coupled to the client computer system. The method further includes, in response to detecting the client is online, synchronizing results of the playing with a host computer system.

A method, computer program product, and system for defining custodianship of content in an electronic discovery management system, and maintaining custodianship definitions in an external content archive, the custodianship specifying at least one parameter of a first custodian to associate the content with the first custodian. Responsive to receiving a request to perform an operation on the content associated with the first custodian, the request is modified with the at least one parameter of the first custodian and at least one property of the content in the content archive, the at least one parameter and at the least one property being consumable by the content archive. A computer apparatus and computer implemented method for policy distribution provides a Records Management System (RMS) that is configured for setting up and maintaining local record classification and disposition policies. An Enterprise Retention Management (ERM) application comprises a centralized workflow configured for managing retention policies for an entity. An application layer in the ERM comprises a propagation workflow that is configured for managing retention policy integration between the ERM and the RMS. The propagation workflow thus provides automated retention policy propagation from the ERM to the RMS.

Method and apparatus for policy distribution

A method and system for storage of unstructured data in external data storage uses low-cost, minimally-functional external data stores (EDS) to store immutable, unstructured content. An external storage layer (ESL) interposed between an e-discovery management application (EMA), and the EDS constitutes an intermediary allowing access to external storage from the EMA and adding functionality unavailable on EDSs, offsetting the functional sacrifice incurred by using the EDS and preserving cost advantage. Caching content on the ESL during propagation to the EDS eliminates latency during file propagation. The ESL creates metadata and maintains an index of the data, allowing the data owner to search and retrieve from the EDS. The ESL compresses, decompresses, encrypts and decrypts data. An ESL vendor can service a number of clients on a fee or subscription basis. The ESL can distribute client data across EDSs and mirror data stored on a first ESL on another ESL.

Method and system for storage of unstructured data for electronic discovery in external data stores

Retention of data is managed and data holds are enforced. At least one event consumer data source contains data that is subject to a retention schedule that defines rules for the disposition of the data. An enterprise retention management (ERM) application accepts at least one hold request that defines at least a portion of the data that must be held from disposition. A disposition request is also accepted by the ERM that comprises an instruction to dispose of at least a portion of the data based on the rules within the retention schedule. The disposition request is filtered to dispose of the portion of data identified in the disposition request minus the held data, which comprises disposition survivor data. An event-driven disposition mechanism disposes of the disposition survivor data as soon as possible after the disposition survivor data is released from hold or unlocked.

Typically, ERMs have been designed from the ground up to be highly scalable across multiple national and regional jurisdictions, whereas RMS's were primarily departmental. Proper integration between ERMs and RMSs, as provided by the invention, allows corporations to deploy larger scale multi-organizational instances of RMSs, thus achieving a better level of control and significant economies of scale.

Techniques are provided that enable the display of full text index-ability, indexing, and container extraction status of files in a collection repository in connection with content management. Further, techniques are provided that: guarantee the user knows which files failed to index and explode and which files are not indexable; tell the user which files have not been indexed yet, so they are not omitted from the analysis; allow users to work on the collected files without waiting for maximum possible indexing period; allow users to start working immediately on collected content; allow for displaying indexing and extraction status information relevant only to the search query; allow for automatic and manual update of a list of un-indexable file types; and allow for informing users about the processing status of a collection by sending notifications, displaying alerts, and providing appropriate views.
