Described herein are systems and methods for implementing a task assignment protocol. In one or more embodiments, a task management system receives task data and resource data. Responsive to the receipt, the task management system receives input for selection of a resource. A candidate subset of tasks that match the properties of the resource is then identified. Upon receipt of selection of the candidate task, a task icon updates. The task icon may update to reflect the resource identifier associated the assigned resource. Additionally, or alternatively, a resource icon is updated to reflect the availability of the resource. The protocol repeats until one or more resources are allocated to the tasks. A resource chart additionally displays to aid in evaluation of resource availability.

Embodiments of the invention include a method of implementing a touch screen optimized pivot table. The method includes providing a view of a hierarchal table on a touch screen. The hierarchal table includes hierarchal levels and each of hierarchal levels includes corresponding data. The method further includes mapping each of the hierarchal levels to each of a corresponding region on the touch screen. Each region's view displays the corresponding data for the mapped hierarchal level. The method further includes displaying on the touch screen the corresponding data for each of the hierarchal levels in each of the mapped regions, receiving at the touch screen input to manipulate at least one of the regions on the touch screen, and in response to the received input, causing each subordinate region to the at least one manipulated region to update the corresponding data displayed in each of the subordinate regions.

Touch optimized pivot table

A graphical hierarchical data wheel for displaying hierarchical nodes includes a top level circle on a central axis of the wheel representing a top level node. The wheel further includes a first concentric ring adjacent to the top level circle and comprising a plurality of first level segments, each representing a first level node. The size of each first level segment is proportional to a weight of the corresponding first level node. The wheel further includes a second concentric ring having a larger radius than the first concentric ring and adjacent to the first concentric ring, and comprising a plurality of second level segments, each representing a second level node. The size of each of the second level segments is proportional to the weight of the corresponding second level node. The wheel may include additional concentric rings as needed, and depending on the resolution and size of the display.
