An electronic aiming system includes an electro-mechanical reticle having a plurality of electrically powered holdover indicators disposed on a primary crosshair of the reticle, the holdover indicators configured to be individually selected and energized to a visible state, a rangefinder configured to generate range data, a computing device configured to generate ballistics data; and a processor configured to receive the range data and ballistics data, select, based at least in part on either or both of the range data and ballistics data, one or more of the holdover indicators, and energize the selected holdover indicator or indicators to the visible state.

A target sight system includes a base portion with a gun-mounting interface allowing the sight to be firmly fastened to a shooting device. The base also includes a power supply, a target light generator, and a light-passing surface through which the target light passes between the target light generator and a target. The sight system also includes a cover that is detachably removable from the base portion.

An accessory for a firearm includes a deflector integrated into the accessory and structured to alter a path of discharge gasses and/or debris after such gasses and debris are emitted from the firearm when the firearm is discharged. The deflector may be sized and shaped to alter a path of discharge gasses and/or debris after such gasses and debris pass a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) of the firearm. The LCI indicates a presence of a cartridge within a firing chamber of the firearm, but openings within and around the LCI also provide a path for hot gasses and debris to strike accessories, which causes fouling and other deterioration.

An electronic indicator on a see-through optical scope indicates whether an optical system is canted. The indicator may include illuminable visual indicators positioned on opposite sides of a field of view through the optical scope. The indicator may be visual, haptic, or aural. The visual indicator may include one or more LEDs positioned on the periphery of the field of view, and may be optically coupled to an appropriate position on the face of the reticle using a suitable waveguide. The LEDs are coupled to a microprocessor which is, in turn, coupled to a solid-state electronic inclinometer that is incorporated into the internal structure of the optical system. The microprocessor is configured to selectively illuminate one or more of the visual indicators based on the output of the inclinometer, thereby indicating how the reticle is canted, if at all.

A method of pairing a device and a single one of two or more potential pairing devices includes first setting the device in a seek mode and scanning for the potential pairing devices. A list is stored in the device that includes any potential pairing devices discovered while in the seek mode. The list is stored in a sequential order based on a signal strength between the device and each of the discovered potential pairing devices. Then the device determines whether any of the potential pairing devices in the list are set in a predetermined mode, and pairs with the one of the potential pairing devices in the predetermined mode that has the highest signal strength.

Establishing pairing between firearm accessories

A reticle for an aiming device includes a number of holdover indicators on the reticle that may be individually selected; an input for receiving ballistics data; and a processor configured to, based at least in part on the received ballistics data, select one or more of the holdover indicators; and cause the selected holdover indicator or indicators to visibly change state on the reticle. Methods of operating a digital reticle are also described. Further disclosed is a system that includes the reticle above, as well as a rangefinder for providing range data and a ballistics calculator for providing ballistics data. Some variations include ballistics data stored in a memory.

A riflescope that stores several grouped ballistics data includes a reticle having individually addressable indicators, a memory that stores two or more stored sets of ballistics data, where each set of ballistics data is mapped to a respective set of indicators of the reticle, a selector configured to choose one of the stored sets of ballistics data as an active set of ballistics data, and a driver structured to energize only those indicators of the plurality of indicators that are mapped to the active set of ballistics data. Methods of selecting an active group of ballistics data are also described.

A sighting device includes a base portion structured to be mounted to a gun, a battery powered accessory, and a battery receiver structured to contain a battery for the battery powered accessory. The battery receiver has a closed position in which the battery receiver is contained within the base portion as well as an open position in which the battery receiver is at least partially separated from the base portion. The sighting device includes a manually operated release button that, when pressed, causes the battery receiver to be released from the closed position.

Digital reticle aiming method

A method of indicating an aiming adjustment in a riflescope of a shooting device. The method includes receiving, at a controller in the riflescope, a ballistics solution signal, the ballistics solution signal corresponding to a path of a projectile to be fired from the shooting device toward a target; receiving, at the controller, a first electronic signal corresponding to a position of an elevation adjustment selector of the riflescope relative to a zero point of the elevation adjustment selector; determining, by the controller, a magnitude and a direction of an aiming adjustment based on at least the first electronic signal and the ballistics solution signal; and activating an electronic indicator to provide a notification signal to a user, the notification signal conveying the magnitude and the direction of the aiming adjustment.
