In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, an information handling system may include a processor, a management controller communicatively coupled to the processor and configured to provide out-of-band management of the information handling system, and an interface for communicatively coupling the management controller to a second information handling system external to the information handling system for out-of-band management of the information handling system, wherein the management controller is further configured to enable communication between the second information handling system and an operating system executing on the processor.

Systems and methods are disclosed that may be implemented to install and use a replacement BIOS code stored in non-volatile memory of the system BIOS to facilitate activation of a new or replacement OS on an information handling system. Dynamic configuration of computer when booting

A method and system for enabling removal of a removable medium of a boot device included in a computer system when booting a boot operating system. A boot device driver program, included in the boot operating system, is executed to configure a RAM disk. The boot device driver program copies the contents of the boot sector of the removable medium to the RAM disk. The boot device driver program modifies the boot operating system by redirecting the boot media input/output to the RAM disk. The redirection of the boot media I/O to the RAM disk enables the removal of the removable medium.

Method for allowing CD removal when booting embedded OS from a CD-ROM device

Method and apparatus for partitioning a hard disk during installation of a network OS. In one embodiment, a computer system is booted from a CD-ROM containing a computer server setup (&ldquo;CSS&rdquo;) program. The CSS program prompts a user for certain disk preparation data, including the primary and utility partition sizes and volume label. The CSS program then writes a self-loading binary image (&ldquo;SLBI&rdquo;) to the first track of the first hard disk immediately following the master boot record (&ldquo;MBR&rdquo;). The SLBI includes a bootstrap loader, disk preparation code, and the disk preparation data. The sector address of the SLBI bootstrap loader is placed into a partition descriptor within the master partition table (&ldquo;MPT&rdquo;) of the MBR. The computer is then rebooted and control transferred to the SLBI, which the prepares the hard disk by partitioning the disk to include a utility and primary partition of the desired sizes and volume label (primary partition) and formatting these partitions appropriately. The SLBI then removes itself from the first track and updates the MPT with the new descriptors, at which point the computer system is again rebooted.

Method for preparing computer hard disks during installation of a network operating system

The stabilizing apparatus of the present invention has the advantages of allowing the computer system tower units to be positioned in close proximity with respect to each other while providing stability for a single or multiple tower units. The present invention provides a stabilizing apparatus for a computer system having one or more tower units with a generally narrow width base with respect to the depth and height of each tower unit. At least one pedestal spans the base of the tower unit in a direction transverse to the depth of the tower unit. The pedestal of the present invention is a single bar having two ends which extend outwardly from opposite sides of the tower unit for preventing the tower unit from overturning. Alternatively, the ends are also angled downwardly for raising the base of the tower unit. Screws are used, for instance, to attach the pedestal to the tower unit. The pedestal of one tower unit is capable of interlacing with the pedestal of another tower unit allowing the tower units to be positioned in close proximity with respect to each other.
