A controller for controlling flow of coolant to one or more components of a vehicle is disclosed. The controller determines respective amounts of heat expected to be rejected by the one or more components of the vehicle in a steady state of operation at current operating conditions of the one or more components, and generates a feedforward flow control signal based at least in part on the determined amounts of heat and a target temperature for the one or more components. The controller generates a controller output signal based at least in part on the feedforward control signal, and provides the controller output signal to the cooling system to control flow of coolant to the one or more components of the vehicle from the cooling system in accordance with the determined amounts of heat expected to be rejected by the one or more components of the vehicle.

An aftertreatment system for treating constituents of an exhaust gas produced by an engine includes a heater configured to selectively heat the exhaust gas entering the aftertreatment system. An aftertreatment component is disposed downstream of the heater. A gas sensor is disposed downstream of the heater and upstream of the aftertreatment component. The gas sensor comprises a sensing element, and a heating element configured to selectively heat the sensing element to an operating temperature of the sensing element.

The method further includes determining an amount of NOdownstream of the second SCR catalyst, and adjusting one of the NHreference target and a reductant doser command in response to the amount of NOdownstream of the second SCR catalyst. A method for diagnosing NOx sensors in an exhaust aftertreatment system includes suspending reductant dosing in an exhaust aftertreatment system; purging a reductant deposit in a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system of the exhaust aftertreatment system; adjusting at least one of an ignition timing and an engine speed for an engine to adjust an engine out nitrogen oxide (NOx) amount; receiving measured SCR inlet NOx data from a SCR inlet NOx sensor and measured SCR outlet NOx data from a SCR outlet NOx sensor; determining a phase shift between the measured SCR inlet and SCR outlet NOx data; applying the determined phase shift to the SCR outlet NOx data; and determining a diagnostic feature based on the SCR inlet NOx data and the phase shifted SCR outlet NOx data regarding a state of the SCR inlet and outlet NOx sensors.

Unique apparatuses, methods, and systems including engine-out emissions controls are disclosed. One embodiment is a system including an internal combustion engine system including at least one fueling actuator and at least one air handling actuator and an electronic controller. The electronic structure may be structured to determine initial values for a plurality of combustion references, determine a plurality of target emissions values or ranges based upon the plurality of combustion references, determine errors between the emissions target values or ranges and sensed emissions information, determine correction factors and weighting factors for the combustion references, the weighting factors being based at least in part upon the errors between the between the emissions target values or ranges and sensed emissions information, selectably determine modified values for the combustion references based upon the correction factors and the weighting factors, and control operation of the at least one fueling actuator and at least one air handling actuator based upon the modified values.

Systems, methods and apparatus disclosed that include an internal combustion engine and an exhaust system that includes an exhaust aftertreatment system with an SCR catalyst. A NOsensor downstream of the SCR catalyst is provided along with techniques for estimating an amount of NOand NH3 at the tailpipe to decouple the impact of cross-sensitivity of the NOsensor to NOand NH3. Feedback control of the reductant dosing amount based on these estimates is also provided.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for reductant dosing in an SCR aftertreatment system

An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine may have a reductant delivery system that delivers reductant to an exhaust stream in an exhaust aftertreatment system. A temperature sensor may be positioned in or near the flow of reductant and exhaust to measure the temperature of the reductant and exhaust. A change in temperature over time, such as an increase, decrease, or change in variation amplitude, may indicate the presence of a reductant deposit in the system. Detection of the deposit may initiate a regeneration cycle in which the operating characteristics of the system change to eliminate the reductant deposit to prevent it from hindering the performance of the exhaust aftertreatment system.

Apparatus, method, and system for diagnosing reductant deposits in an exhaust aftertreatment system

An apparatus includes a dosing module structured to suspend dosing in an exhaust aftertreatment system; a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) inlet NOx module structured to interpret SCR inlet NOx data and an SCR inlet temperature; a SCR outlet NOx module structured to interpret SCR outlet NOx data; and a system diagnostic module structured to determine an efficiency of a SCR system based on the SCR inlet and outlet NOx data over a range of SCR temperatures, wherein the system diagnostic module is further structured to determine a state of at least one of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a diesel particulate filter (DPF), and the SCR system based on the SCR efficiency at an elevated SCR temperature range and the SCR efficiency at a relatively lower SCR temperature range relative to a high SCR efficiency threshold and a low SCR efficiency threshold.
