A computer chassis includes a base portion formed of a metal chassis and a cosmetic cover. A top portion of the chassis is formed of a metal chassis and a cosmetic cover. A plurality of first computer components are mounted in the base portion. A plurality of second computer components are mounted in the top portion. A pivotal connection is provided between the top portion and the base portion. The top portion is pivotable about 90&deg; relative to the base portion to an open position immediately exposing all of the first and second computer components for access, without removing any of the cosmetic covers.

A computer system includes a motherboard to which a selected one of various processor boards can be coupled via an adaptor. The boards include a CPU and a heat transfer member. The adaptor includes core logic such as a Northbridge module and power control circuitry. The adaptor is pin connectable to the motherboard and the various processor boards are each pin connectable to the adaptor. Alternatively, the adaptor and processor boards can be replaced with a processor module including features of the processor boards and the adaptor. The processor module is also pin connectable to the motherboard at the same connection used by the adaptor.

Flexing of a display assembly for a flat panel display can be advantageously minimized or eliminated by a stiffener apparatus that is an adhesive backed thin member attached directly to the front or viewing side of the flat panel display device. The stiffener apparatus is also attached to a mounting bracket of the display assembly, or to another portion of the display assembly, in order to provide the desired stiffness. Additionally, should the display device be removed from the assembly for service, another advantage of the stiffener apparatus is that it remains with the display device and can readily be reattached to the mounting bracket or other portion of the display assembly.

A media eject mechanism is disclosed which includes an L shaped eject member having an ejection spring portion and a lock spring portion and a media housing which engages the lock spring portion such that when the lock spring portion is disengaged with the media housing the ejection spring portion causes the media to be ejected. Such a mechanism advantageously provides media eject functionality using a small number of discrete parts.

A portable computer and method of operation thereof. The portable computer includes: (1) a first chassis portion hingedly coupled to a second chassis portion by first and second bulkheads to allow relative rotation between a closed position and an open position, (2) a display screen associated with the first chassis portion, (3) data processing and storage circuitry contained within the second chassis portion and coupled to the display screen via a cable located proximate a hinge structure coupling the first and second chassis portions and (4) a keyboard coupled to the second chassis portion and the data processing and storage circuitry and including: (4a) a first keyboard portion pivotally coupled to a first location on the second chassis portion for rotation relative thereto, the first keyboard portion supporting a first plurality of keys aligned along a first axis, (4b) a second keyboard portion pivotally coupled to a second location on the chassis for rotation relative thereto, the second keyboard portion supporting a second plurality of keys aligned along a second axis, and (4c) a baseplate having a plurality of peripheral tabs aligning with corresponding slots formed in the second chassis portion, the first and second keyboard portions coupled to the baseplate.
