A read device () for reading an interface card () is disclosed. The card () is configured for insertion into the read device (). The card () comprises indicia () formed thereon and a memory () having data stored therein for communicating with an external device. The read device () comprises a substantially transparent touch sensitive membrane () arranged to overlay the interface card () upon receipt of the card () in the read device (). The read device () also comprises a central processing unit for sending a service identifier, and a specific portion of the data to the external device. The specific data is related to a user selected indicia (), wherein the external device provides a service identified by the service identifier upon receipt of the data.

A customizable data filter system is disclosed, that is adapted to reduce the dimension of a searchable data base (), and to enable performance of a database search and/or a data item selection, in relation to the reduced search space. The system comprises a Portable Customizable data Filter and Interface (PCFI) () storing at least a base data filter parameter, and able to provide a user interface by means of user selectable icons. The system also comprises a reader () for the PCFI (), and database processing means () responsive to the data filter parameter and a user icon selection, wherein the reduced search space is defined by the filter parameter, and the database search and/or the data item selection is performed using the selectable icons.

Customizable filter interface

An interface card comprising a substrate with indicia formed thereon. The card is configured for insertion into a read device. The read device has a substantially transparent touch sensitive membrane arranged to overlay the interface card so as to present the indicia to a user of the read device through the membrane. The read device also comprises a memory for storing a service identifier for identifying a service to be received from an external device according to indicia selected by the user and data stored in the memory and associated with the indicia.

Card for service access

Disclosed is an electronic ticketing system () and method () utilizing a smart card () The smart card can be loaded with pre-purchased tickets which are then booked at a subsequent date. Alternatively, the booking and payment for the ticket can be made at the one transaction. The smart card is customizable by a user () who would normally be a promoter or organizer of an event for which tickets are required. Also disclosed is a multiple purpose card () which is both a smart card having electronic data stored () therein and a conventional business card having information () printed thereon for use by a reader. The donee of the card is able to insert same into a card reader () to obtain detailed information from the computer () of the donor of the card. The multiple purpose smart card may also be used as a trading card () as part of a set () of similar cards each offering differing levels of user access to a database () related to the set.

Smart card systems and electronic ticketing methods

The method provides services using a smart card(or). The services are provided by a third party other than the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) of the smart card. The method comprises the following steps. The method generatesa plurality of data, where each of the data comprises information for activating a service associated with an electrical apparatus. The method also generatesan indicium associated with each data. The method then programmesa smart card by loading the plurality of data into a memory of the smart card and applying each indiciumto a surface of the smart card. The method also comprises loading the smart card into a smart card readerand selectingany one of the indicia. The method then activates the service by communicatingthe selected data to the electrical apparatus.

A system, method and language for compositing or creating images is disclosed. The images typically comprise a plurality of graphical elements each including color and opacity information. The system utilizes operators having the graphical elements as operands in which the operators combine the operands according to a function defined by the operators, the color information, and the opacity information, to produce new graphical elements. One part of the system includes interpreting the language by parsing and executing a sequence of statements and forming an expression tree the nodes of which comprise the graphical elements. Instructions are then derived from the tree. Another part permits the compositing of opaque graphical elements and associated clipping operations. Bounding box method are used for locating active areas of graphical elements from the nodes. Manipulation of the expression tree is used to reduce the expected execution time of the compositing commands. An architecture is disclosed for implementing the system.
