A tracheostomy tube introducer () has a patient end region () on which the tube () is mounted and that is curved in one sense. The introducer has a machine end region () projecting from the rear end of the tube () to provide a handle that curves in the opposite sense to the patient end region () so that the introducer has an S shape along its length. A bore () for a guide member extends from the patient end tip () of the introducer and opens in the machine end region () through a side opening (). The introduceris provided in a kit () with the tracheostomy tube () and a dilator () having the same general S shape as the introducer.

Tube introducers, assemblies and methods

A tracheostomy tube assembly includes an outer tube () and an inner cannula () removably inserted in the outer tube. The connector () on the machine end of the outer tube is rotatable through about a quarter turn and has a screw thread () on its inner surface. The hub () on the machine end of the inner cannula () is also formed with a screw thread () arranged to engage with the screw thread () in the connector. The inner cannula () is pulled into the outer tube (), or is pushed outwardly of the tube, by rotating the connector.

Tracheostomy tube assemblies and inner cannulae

A tracheostomy tube assembly includes an outer tube () and an inner cannula () inserted in the outer tube. Two lugs () and () project outwardly from the inner cannula. The outer tube has a connector () that is rotatable and has catch members () and () that can be rotated into alignment with the lugs () and () on the inner cannula so as to retain the inner cannula in the outer tube. The inner cannula is removed by twisting the connector () through 90&#xb0; so that the catch members () (and) move out of alignment with the lugs () and () to enable the inner cannula to be pulled rearwardly out of the outer tube.

A tracheostomy tube () has an adjustable flange () that can be slid along the tube and locked in the desired position. The flange has a one-piece resilient nut () that is threaded on a tubular projection () on the flange. The nut has an integral inner sleeve () divided into separate fingers () the outside of which are engaged by the inside of the tubular projection. The flange is locked in position by screwing the nut onto the projection so that the fingers that are forced inwardly to engage the outside of the tube.

Medico-surgical tube assemblies and flange assemblies

A tracheostomy tube () has a movable and lockable flange () by which the tube can be supported about the neck of a patient. The flange has a rotatable locking ring (), which is threaded with a housing () fixed with the wings (and) of the flange. A resilient sleeve () is located in a recess () of the locking ring between a compression surface () on the locking ring at one end and the floor () of the housing at the opposite end. When the locking ring () is twisted it is moved forwardly along the housing (), thereby compressing the resilient sleeve () axially. The axial compression causes the sleeve () to expand radially against the outside of the tube () and the inside of the housing (), thereby locking the flange () in position.

Medico-surgical tube and flange assemblies

A tracheostomy tube assembly comprises an outer tracheostomy tube () and an inner cannula () fitted in the tube. The machine end of the inner cannula has a collapsible region () formed by a plurality of curved or bent struts () extending parallel with one another between a machine end collar () and a patient end collar (). The struts () carry outwardly-projecting catches () arranged to engage a rib () extending around the inside of a hub () at the machine end of the tube and thereby resist removal of the cannula from the tube. The inner cannula () is removed by twisting the machine end collar () so that the struts () collapse inwardly and thereby disengage the catches () from the rib ().

The present invention refers to medical devices comprising a non-metallic micro tube containing FRP (fiber reinforced polymer), especially to respective tubings, used for constructing catheters like balloon dilation catheters, stent delivery catheters, guiding catheters and diagnostic catheters.
