Preparation of cyanine dye for high density optical recording disk

This invention provides a novel process for preparing soluble phthalocyanines by microwave irradiation in the absence of any organic solvent. Three different starting materials, i.e. t-butylphthalic anhydride, t-butyl phthalonitrile and metal-free H Pc (tetra-t-butylphthalocyanine) have been adopted, respectively. The starting material with proper metal compound, such as chloride or acetate were irradiated in a commercial microwave oven for a period of 1 to 30 minutes at a power of 200&tilde;900 W. This process is noted to reduce drastically reaction time of MPc formation from 8&tilde;24 hours to 10&tilde;30 minutes due to its unique heating by microwave irradiation. Sandwiched type MPc (such as Lu Pc ) can be produced only through metal replacement from metal-free phthalocyanine by microwave irradiation.

A cyanine dye for using in high density optical disc recording medium, having the following structure: ##STR1## wherein R represents 4-methoxycarbonyl benzyl group, X.sup.- represents an acid anion, and n represents an integer of 1 or 2. This cyanine dye is suitable for use as a .lambda.=450 nm.about.650 nm visible light-absorbing organic dye useful as a high density optical disc recording medium.

A cyanine dye for using in optical disc recording medium, having the following structure: ##STR1## wherein R represents 4-methoxycarbonyl benzyl group, X.sup.- represents an acid anion, and n represents am integer of 2 or 3. This cyanine dye is suitable for use as a near infrared light-absorbing organic dye useful as an optical disc recording medium.

The present invention is related to the synthesis of a novel photochromic compound. This compound is a reactive photochromic spirooxazine pigment. Its structure is shown as below: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is either a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms. R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are any of the following group: an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or an alkyoxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or halogen atoms, or hydrogen atoms. The range of n is from 1 to 4, which represents the number of repeated units. This synthesized compound possesses a high thermal resistant property up to 241.degree. C., and it may be added into low melting polyethylene terephthalate(PET) resins for direct melt spinning to prepare photochromic fiber. In addition, the reactive double bond of this compound can be copolymerized with other vinyl monomers, to prepare high molecular weight photochromic materials used for photochromic eye glasses and/or photochromic coating.

A porous polyurethane tube suitable for use as a vascular graft prosthesis is prepared by placing solvent type polyurethane resin coated mandrel in a static coagulant consisting of water, ethanol and optionally aprotic solvent within 30 seconds immediately after the coating step, separating the tube by placing the mandrel in a swelling agent containing at least 90 percent by weight of ethanol and rinsing with a solution containing at least 80 percent by weight ethanol.

Method of making synthetic fibers containing photochromic pigment

A safety socket comprising a socket, a partition board, a hood and a cover is disclosed. A sliding partition board mounted between the socket and the hood is provided. One end of the partition board covers the socket and the other end extends to the outer part of the socket to form a handle. Two spots are provided in the main body of the partition board which correspond to the receptacles of the socket. On the underside of the partition board a column protrudes with a spring chamber retaining a spring. When the socket is not in use the spring loaded partition board automatically disaligns itself with the receptacles. To use the socket, simply pull back on the handle until the receptacles and the slots on the partition board are aligned.
