The present invention relates to a matte coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a) polymer particles having an average particle size in the range of from 80 nm to 500 nm; b) polymeric organic crosslinked microspheres having a particle size in the range of from 1 &#x3bc;m to 20 &#x3bc;m; c) polyethylene wax particles having a particle size in the range of from 0.3 &#x3bc;m to 30 &#x3bc;m; and d) a rheology modifier. The composition of the present invention gives matte finish coatings with excellent burnish resistance.

The present invention provides a composition comprising 1) an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles having a core-shell morphology wherein the core protuberates from the shell; wherein the core comprises from 5 to 90 weight percent structural units of a fluoroalkylated monomer, and 2) less than 0.09 weight percent structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer; and wherein the shell comprises from 0.1 to 5 weight percent of itaconic acid or a phosphorus acid monomer, based on the weight of the shell. The present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a way of selectively concentrating fluoroalkyl functionality into polymer particles with acorn morphology, thereby providing an improvement in dirt pick-up resistance of the subsequent coating.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising 1) an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles having a core-shell morphology wherein the core protuberates from the shell and comprises less than 0.09 structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer, based on the weight of the core; and 2) pigment particles with a refractive index in the range of from 2.0 and 3.0, wherein the pigment volume concentration of the pigment particles is at least 11. The composition of the present invention is useful for improving block resistance in coatings applications.

The instant invention provides a crosslinkable aqueous composition, method of producing the same, crosslinked compositions, and method of producing the same. The crosslinkable composition comprising: an aqueous dispersion comprising; (a) water; (b) a polycarbamate comprising at least an average of 2.0 carbamate functional groups; (c) a polyaldehyde comprising at least two aldehyde groups; (d) an acid catalyst; and (e) optionally one or more surfactants; wherein said aqueous dispersion has a pH in the range of less than 7; and wherein said composition is capable of being crosslinked at a temperature in range of less than 80&#xb0; C. upon substantial removal of water.
