A vehicle includes a brake-by-wire system having a brake pedal and first and second sensors. The first sensor is configured to output a first signal indicative of a position of the brake pedal and the second sensor is configured to output a second signal indicative of the position. A controller is programmed to command a braking torque based on only the first signal when a travel of the brake pedal is limited to a first range.

A stowable pedal system for a motor vehicle is provided. The stowable pedal system for a motor vehicle includes a foot pedal configured to be actuated by a user in a deployed position and further actuatable to a stowed position and the deployed position, and a sensor assembly sensing a sensed position of the foot pedal. The system also includes a controller configured to process the sensed position from the sensor assembly and command a vehicle operation in the deployed position and further processing the sensed signal during a stow or deploy operation to determine a stowed or deployed status of the foot pedal and generating an output signal indicative of the stowed or deployed status.
