This disclosure describes techniques for intelligently grouping, ungrouping, collapsing, and/or expanding columns of data for effective presentation on a display screen. In one example, a method includes accessing, by a computing device, data organized into a plurality of columns, each column having one or more data characteristics; determining, by the computing device and based on at least some of the data characteristics of the columns, one or more column groups, each column group including a subset of the plurality of columns; determining, by the computing device and based on attributes of a window for presentation of the data, whether the plurality of columns will fit within the window; and in response to determining that the plurality of columns will not fit within the window, outputting a user interface presenting a column group as a single column within the window so that the plurality of columns fits within the window.

A computing device stores data defining a hierarchical navigation tree. For each respective user interface (UI) plugin of a plurality of UI plugins the device receives metadata for the respective UI plugin. The metadata for the respective UI plugin comprises a respective path descriptor for the respective UI plugin. For each respective node identified in the respective path descriptor for the respective UI plugin, the device marks the respective node identified by the respective path element as being active. The device outputs a UI for display. The UI comprises a pruned representation of the hierarchical navigation tree. For each respective node of a plurality of nodes in the hierarchical navigation tree, the pruned representation of the hierarchical navigation tree includes a label of the respective node in response to determining the respective node is marked as active. The UI may be a single-pane-of-glass interface that comprises nodes associated with separately developed UI plugins.

Framework for creating hierarchical navigation trees using user interface plugins

Techniques are described for optimizing the placement of automatically generated rules within security policies. An administrator may, for example, interact with the graphical representation of rules rendered by the threat control module and, responsive to the interaction, the system may determine an optimal placement for the created rule in the list of rules for the identified security device based on either the existence of anomalies or threat IP data and/or advanced security parameters. In this way, the system allows administrators to configure rules with the most optimal sequence to detect threats.

A main execution thread retrieves a data object from a comparatively slow, mass storage device as a series of data blocks and stores each data block within an addressable element of a global counted list stored in memory. The main execution thread initiates a communication thread for each recipient device. Each communication thread is initialized with the network address of a corresponding recipient device and a list of addresses for the counted list elements containing the data blocks of the data object to be distributed. The communication threads operate independently and in parallel to retrieve the data object blocks from the global list for transmission to their respective recipient devices. Distribution status of each data block is maintained using a counter, associated with each addressable element, that is initiated to the total number of recipient devices and decremented each time the data block within the addressable element is transmitted.
