These embodiments involve the processing of pollutants in a stream such that accuracy is maintained during the processing for high quality evaluation. The method includes collecting atmospheric data for an area, collecting concentration data for pollutant emissions, processing the atmospheric data to determine a quality of the atmospheric data, processing the concentration data for pollutant emissions to determine a concentration data quality, producing a combined quality metric from the processed atmospheric data and the processed concentration data, and determining if the combined quality metric is of a high or low level.

Methods and apparatus for fugitive emission detection. In some embodiments, the method can include planning and performing aerial inspections of a plurality of structures within one or more facilities by determining a flight path for a scanning of fugitive emissions from a plurality of structures within one or more facilities. The flight path can cover a set of structure clusters that can be serviced by a base. The method can also include using a computer-implemented clustering method to identify the set of structure clusters that can be serviced by the respective base. The clustering method can be a hierarchical multilevel clustering method. The method can also include scanning the plurality of structures for fugitive emissions using an airborne sensor. The airborne sensor can be mounted to a flight vehicle launched from the base. The method can also include classifying the plurality of structures based on results of the scanning.

Optimized multi-stage intermittent fugitive emission detection

Systems and methods presented herein generally relate to determining flaring efficiency of a flare based at least in part on radiant or thermal heat generated by the flare that is detected by one or more flare monitors. In particular, in certain embodiments, a control system may be used to determine a flaring efficiency of the combustion of the flare gas at the tip of the flare based at least in part on the radiant or thermal heat detected by the one or more flare monitors.

Systems and methods presented herein generally relate to greenhouse gas emission management and, more particularly, to a greenhouse gas emission management workflow to perform greenhouse gas detection sensor placement or greenhouse gas leak detection. For example, the system and method enable improved gas sensor arrangements within an oil and gas worksite. In another example, the system and method enable the prediction of a location and a leak rate of a gas leak within an oil and gas production facility based on measurements collected by gas leak sensors disposed within the facility and prevailing wind information.

Method and apparatus for methane management

Systems and methods are described for calculating an emission rate of a fugitive gas based on a gas density image of the fugitive gas. In an example, a computing device receives a gas density image of a fugitive gas from a camera. The computing device determines how to optimize the fugitive gas in the camera's field of view and instructions the camera to adjust its bearing and zoom accordingly. The camera captures one or more additional images of the fugitive gas, and the computing device stitches the images together where appropriate. The computing device then calculates the emission rate by delineating the fugitive gas in the image and determining a flux of the gas using one of various calculation methods.

Systems and methods are described for developing a model to predict humidity (relative, absolute) values inside a closed housing with an absorbent filter. In an example, a methane sensor that includes an internal atmospheric sensor and an external atmospheric sensor can be placed at a site. A computing device can use measurements from the atmospheric sensors to calculate predicted relative and absolute humidity values inside the methane sensor. The computing device can train a gaussian process regression model to calibrate sensor data based on the external temperature and humidity. When the model predicts the ambient methane within a predetermined degree of allowance, the model can be applied to live readings from methane sensors in the field.

Systems and methods presented herein are configured to monitor gas storage in a well and, more specifically, to invert optical measurements to predict the fractional molar composition of an unknown composition of a gas mixture comprised of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, other gases, or combinations thereof, in any underground reservoir or salt dome where hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and/or the other gases are stored or exist.

A leak detection system includes a light source configured to output emitted light into a region of water, and a light detector configured to receive returned light from the region of the water and to output a detector signal indicative of the returned light. The leak detection system also includes at least one controller configured to detect hydrocarbons within the region of the water in response to detecting a hydrocarbon wavelength within the returned light, to determine at least one position of the hydrocarbons within the region of the water based on a time difference between a first time at which the emitted light is output from the light source and a second time at which the returned light at the hydrocarbon wavelength is received at the light detector, and to generate a three-dimensional model of a subsea structure based on the detector signal.

Systems and methods presented herein generally relate to greenhouse gas emission monitoring and, more particularly, to a greenhouse gas emission monitoring workflow using various different types of sensors. For example, a system includes a plurality of sensors located within an oil and gas worksite. At least one sensor of the plurality of sensors is configured to detect a status of equipment at the oil and gas worksite. The system also includes a greenhouse gas emission analysis system configured to receive sensor data from the plurality of sensors. The greenhouse gas emission analysis system is also configured to correlate the sensor data from the plurality of sensors (e.g., using one or more reduced order models (ROMs) that reduce the computational complexity of computational fluid dynamics model simulations of previously collected data relating to operation of the oil and gas worksite). The greenhouse gas emission analysis system is further configured to determine an existence of a greenhouse gas emission within the oil and gas worksite, a location of the greenhouse gas emission within the oil and gas worksite, and a quantity of the greenhouse gas emission within the oil and gas worksite based at least in part on the correlation.

Greenhouse gas emission monitoring systems and methods

A technique utilizes spatially resolved temperature measurements to infer the temperature of a subsea infrastructure. According to an embodiment, temperature data, e.g. a temperature map, is determined for the subsea infrastructure and comprises performing remote temperature measurements of water surrounding the subsea infrastructure. Additionally, a metrological scan of the subsea structure may be obtained. Furthermore, a simulation or simulations may be run for an assumed temperature profile along a surface of the subsea infrastructure. The data obtained from the remote temperature measurements, the metrological scan, and the simulation is processed to determine a temperature profile of the subsea infrastructure. This temperature profile can then be used to facilitate a variety of subsea infrastructure management decisions.

Apparatus and method for Raman-spectrography-based measurement of the composition of gas mixture in a high-temperature borehole. The method includes any of determining molar densities of individual alkanes of the mixture, introducing refractive index corrections, utilization of reference species internally to the measurement apparatus, correction for the effect of self-absorption and cross-absorption, as well as minimizing fluorescence when a liquid fraction is present in the borehole. The apparatus is configured to detect vibrational bands of CH, OH, CC, HS, NN and CO functional groups as well as collective modes in the fingerprint spectral region.

Solid state lasers are disclosed herein. An example laser disclosed herein includes a monolithic body having a first end and a second end. The monolithic body includes a first reflector disposed on the first end, a second reflector disposed on the second end, and a solid state gain medium and a Q-switch disposed between the first reflector and the second reflector. The example laser also includes a pump source to cause a population inversion in the solid state gain medium to cause the monolithic body to output a laser pulse. Various applications of the solid state laser are also disclosed herein.

A method for downhole fluid analysis by optical spectroscopy with photoacoustic detection includes positioning a photoacoustic system within a wellbore, applying a laser pulse to the fluid sample using the pulsed laser system, detecting, by the acoustic sensor, a time-resolved acoustic pulse generated by absorption of the laser pulse by the fluid sample, and determining a property of the fluid sample using the detected time resolved acoustic pulse. The photoacoustic system includes a pulsed laser system and an acoustic sensor.

Fluid analysis by optical spectroscopy with photoacoustic detection

A wellbore tool for determining a speed of sound of a fluid sample, such as a hydrocarbon sample or a wellbore fluid, is described herein. The wellbore tool includes a photoacoustic system for analyzing the fluid sample. The photoacoustic system includes a laser system that generates a laser pulse, an interface disposed between the fluid sample and the laser system, and an acoustic detector that receives an acoustic pulse that is generated in response to absorption of the laser pulse. The acoustic pulse is generated when the laser pulse is absorbed by the fluid sample or the interface. This acoustic pulse then moves through the fluid sample and is detected by the acoustic detector. The acoustic pulse is then used to determine a speed of sound of the fluid sample.

Fluidic speed of sound measurement using photoacoustics

A method of analyzing physical properties of a sample includes obtaining the sample and obtaining an electromagnetic spectrum of the sample using terahertz spectroscopy. A sample complex permittivity is computed from the electromagnetic spectrum of the sample. The method further includes estimating the constituents and the constituent fractions and computing an estimated effective complex permittivity based upon a model and the constituent fractions. The method further includes comparing the computed sample complex permittivity with the estimated effective complex permittivity in order to determine the physical properties the sample.
