Provided herein is a modulating retroreflective multilayer film comprising retroreflective elements, a piezoelectric layer, a photovoltaic layer, and an energy storage device. The stacked and transparent layered configuration of the film allows the retroreflective elements and the photovoltaic layer to be simultaneously illuminated by a narrow beam. The low power piezoelectric layer and the energy harvesting of the photovoltaic layer allow the retroreflector to be energetically self-sufficient and suitable for remote deployment. The flexible properties of the component layers allow the retroreflector to be adhered to nonplanar or irregular surfaces for the purpose of labeling and tagging.

A method of monitoring brushing of a tooth and gum surface includes sensing a brushing relative to the tooth surface during a brushing session and generating feedback in response to the brushing. In one embodiment, feedback is generated when a user, such as a child, starts brushing. In another embodiment, feedback is generated when the brushing technique deviates from a correct brushing technique, such as the Bass Technique. When a user uses a correct brushing technique, the bristles on the brush head of a tooth brush vibrate. When the user uses an incorrect brushing technique, the vibrations stop, alerting the user that her technique is incorrect. The user can be alerted about improper brushing techniques in other ways, such as by generating audible sounds such as chirps, interrupting audio signals such as music, generating flashing lights, or the like. Preferably, a user's brushing technique can be tracked for later evaluation.

Embodiments of the present invention embody motion detection via a camera for mobile platform video gaming and exercise, in either integrated or separately attachable components. The system includes an oral care device. The oral care device, such as a toothbrush, includes one or more targets. Each target designates a specific area of the toothbrush, such as back side, a front side, a brush head or a brush end. A target can be a color or a tag, and can be removably coupled or integrally formed with the toothbrush. The system also includes an application configured to detect the targets, to determine that a property of any of the targets has changed. Based on at least the determination, the application is configured to monitor progress of brushing and to control an element in the application.

An apparatus, method, system for 3-D printing that includes a nozzle and a movable platform, wherein the platform provides for a constant distance configuration of the platform relative to the extrusion emitter or nozzle thereby precluding the need to level the printer. A central point of origin is further provided for establishing the directions of movement of the movable cantilevered platform. The direction of motion of the motion vectors each pass through the central point of origin thereby providing a movable platform that stays a constant distance relative to the nozzle when moved in any planar direction within each layer.

Embodiments of the present invention embody motion detection via a camera for mobile platform video gaming, in either integrated or separately attachable components. The system includes an object provided by a player or an eatery. The object includes at least one target, each of the at least one target designates a specific area of the object, such as back side, a front side, a first send or a second end. A target can be a color or a tag, and can be removably coupled or integrally formed with the object. The system also includes an application configured to detect the targets, to determine that a property of any of the targets has changed. Based on at least the determination, the application is configured to control an element in the application.

An oral care brush includes a brush head coupled to a handle at an articulation point. A sensor is mounted for monitoring the articulation point to determine whether a brushing motion is proper. One or more tilt sensors can also be mounted in the handle to determine the orientation of the oral care brush relative to gravity. This orientation can also be used to determine proper brushing motion. A processor is mounted within the handle for receiving information from the sensors. A speaker in the handle is coupled to receive information from the processor and provide it to the user. The processor can also provide the user audio game-play scenarios using the speaker. The handle can also include one or more light sources.

Self-contained, interactive gaming oral brush

A video game device and method are provided. The device is a cordless touch-free video game device that is plug and play. The device includes an array of light transmitters for transmitting a light signal to an object. The object can be retroreflectors that are attached to a user's feet or hands. Upon striking the objects, the transmitted signal is reflected, producing a reflected light signal. A light receiver including a detection array receives the reflected signal from the objects and the reflected signal is transformed into a second signal used to send and track motion of the objects. The motion is used by a game device that determines an activity of the user by sensing the type of user movement performed. The device is ideally suited for controlling cursor position for use with video dance games.
