A method for manufacturing a stator for an electric machine comprises manufacturing a slot cooling fin to extend into a slot defined between a first tooth, a second tooth, and a stator yoke, and disposing a coil in the slot, wherein the slot cooling fin extends into the first coil.

Slot cooling fins in electrical machines

A planar member for a stator stack comprises a stator yoke defining a central longitudinal axis, a first surface facing radially outward, and a second surface facing radially inward, a tooth extending radially inwards from the second surface, a first tooth tip extending circumferentially from a radially inward end of the tooth, a second tooth tip extending circumferentially from the radially inward end of the tooth, a first slot portion defined between the first tooth tip and the second surface, a second slot portion defined between the second tooth tip and the second surface, and a slot cooling fin extending radially from the stator yoke into the first slot portion.

A rotary encoder may include a magnetic encoder disc having a plurality of magnetic features added to the disc by additive manufacturing distributed over a surface of the encoder disc, wherein the disc is configured for attachment to the end of a rotatable shaft, or a cylindrical metallic encoding feature having a plurality of magnetic features added to the cylindrical encoder by additive manufacturing distributed over the surface of the cylindrical encoding feature, wherein the encoding feature is capable of attachment to an outer diameter of the rotatable shaft. The encoder additionally includes a magnetic sensor positioned adjacent to the end of the rotatable shaft to detect magnetic signals from the magnetic features on the disc and/or positioned over the surface of the rotatable shaft to detect magnetic signals from the magnetic features on the encoding feature.

A planar member for a stator stack comprises a stator yoke defining a central longitudinal axis, a first surface facing radially outward, and a second surface facing radially inward, a tooth extending radially inwards from the second surface, a first tooth tip extending circumferentially from a radially inward end of the tooth, a second tooth tip extending circumferentially from the radially inward end of the tooth, a first slot portion defined between the first tooth tip and the second surface, a second slot portion defined between the second tooth tip and the second surface, and a slot cooling fin extending into the first slot portion.

A magnetic position sensing system includes at least one annular magnet mounted to a surface of a rotating body. The annular magnet includes a first end, a second end, an inner diameter surface, and an outer diameter surface. The inner diameter surface and outer diameter surface define a radial thickness therebetween, and the radial thickness varies from the first end to the second end.
