A method of treatment of a condition selected from the group comprising conjunctivitis, keratitis, 'allergic eyes', adenovirus infections, corneal homograft rejection, anterior uveitis, nasal polyps, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic manifestations of the nasopharynx, reversible obstructive airways disease, Crohn's disease, distal colitis and proctitis, which method comprises administration to a patient suffering from such a condition of a therapeutically effective amount of an aqueous solution containing, as active ingredient, 9-ethyl-6,9-dihydro-4,6-dioxo-10-propyl-4H-pyrano(3,2-g)quinoline-2,8-dicarboxylic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. Also described are novel pharmaceutical compositions suitable for use in such methods of treatment.

Pharmaceutical compositions

A device for the administration by inhalation of a medicament in powdered form comprises a medicament reservoir (3) and metering means for dispensing a dose of medicament from the reservoir (3), characterized in that the reservoir (3) comprises a compacted body of powdered medicament (10) and the metering means includes means (11) for abrading the compacted body (10).

Medicament inhalation device and formulation

A compacted body of powdered medicament for use in a device for the administration by inhalation of a medicament in powdered form. The compacted body is made by compressing a loose powder containing the medicament in powdered form under pressure to create sufficient structural integrity in the body to permit metering of several unit doses of the medicament by abrasion of the body in the device.

Particulate nedocromil sodium with a mass median diameter of from 5 to 10 .mu.m is useful as a medicament for inhalation. The particulate nedocromil sodium of the invention is particularly advantageous in that its dispersion, i.e. the proportion of particles which are capable of penetrating deep into the lung, is substantially greater than the dispersion of conventional powders having smaller mass median diameters.

Pharmaceutical composition

A method of compacting and administering a powdered inhalation medicament for use in an inhalation device includes compacting a body of loosely powdered inhalation medicament such that the degree of compaction is sufficient to hold the body together solely due to the force of compaction and placing the compacted body into the inhalation device and abrading the compacted body to obtain a plurality of unit doses of the medicament.

A disposable device for the administration of powdered inhalation medicament is provided which comprises a rigid medicament reservoir (4) holding a unit dose of medicament (10) and having air inlet means (5,7) and medicament outlet means (8); and closure means (3) which are removable in use; wherein the medicament (10) held in the reservoir (4) is in loose powder form.

A device for the administration by inhalation of a medicament in powdered form. The device includes a supply of the medicament in the form of a compacted body of powered medicament, a rotatable helical blade which abrades a desired quantity of the medicament from the compacted body, and a mouthpiece through which the abraded powder can be inhaled by the user of the device.

There is described a pharmaceutical composition comprising nedocromil sodium and liposomes. There is also described an aqueous suspension comprising nedocromil sodium partitioned between a free aqueous phase and a liposome phase. There ae also described a method of making the compositions and their use in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of reversible obstructive airways disease.

Nedocromil sodium compositions and methods for their preparation

There are described new forms of nedocromil sodium, methods of producing these new forms and pharmaceutical formulations, especially pressurized inhalation aerosol formulations, containing finely divided nedocromil sodium. The formulations are indicated for the treatment of reversible obstructive conditions of the airways.
