The disclosure herein provides methods, systems, and devices for measuring similarity of and generating recommendations for unique items. A recommendation system for generating recommendations of alternative unique items comprises an items information database, a penalty computation engine, a recommendation compilation engine, and one or more computers, wherein the penalty computation engine comprises a customizations filter, a condition filter, and a dissimilarity penalty calculator for determine the dissimilarity of attributes of alternative unique items from a plurality of selected items.

A touch-gesture wiring method for connecting data flow wires to input/output terminals of nodes in a graphical program is described. The method may be implemented by a graphical programming application that executes on a mobile device that includes a touch-sensitive screen configured to receive user input as touch gestures. The method may aid the user by displaying a magnified view of the input/output terminals that makes it easier (relative to the default view of the graphical program) for the user to see the input/output terminals and/or easier to select a desired one of the input/output terminals.

A system and method for deploying one or more graphical programs on a personal digital assistant (PDA). One or more selected graphical programs may be programmatically converted to an executable format that can be executed by the portable computing device. For example, the graphical programs may be initially represented as a plurality of data structures that define or specify the operation of the respective graphical programs, and conversion software program may operate to access these data structures from memory and convert the data structures to an executable format suitable for the portable computing device. The executable may be transferred to the portable computing device for execution.

The graphical program may include a graphical user interface having various user interface elements and a block diagram having a plurality of nodes indicating functionality of the graphical program. For each event, a portion of graphical source code (such as a plurality of interconnected nodes) may be included in the block diagram, wherein the portion of graphical source code is operable to receive and respond to the respective user interface event. In one embodiment, a sub-program node may be associated with each event. In another embodiment, an event structure node may be included in the block diagram, wherein the event structure node includes one or more sub-diagrams, each sub-diagram including graphical source code for responding to one or more events.

System and method for static memory allocation (SMA) in a graphical programming system. A graphical program (GP) may be created in response to user input, comprising nodes interconnected by wires for inter-node communication, which visually indicates functionality of the program, and includes a plurality of data elements. The GP is programmatically analyzed to determine: memory requirements for each of the data elements, and one or more subsets of the data elements that can share a memory block, e.g., by traversing the GP to determine one or more static paths, each comprising a path of wire along which a single statically allocated memory block can be used. One or more SMAs are programmatically included in the GP in response, executable to statically allocate a shared memory block for each subset. The GP may be executed, including executing the SMAs to statically allocate the shared memory blocks for each of the subsets.

A portable computer for use in interfacing to a process control system having a host system includes a housing adapted for hand-held operation, a processing unit disposed within the housing and a computer readable memory disposed within the housing and coupled to the processing unit. The portable computer also includes a display, a keypad and a radio frequency transceiver adapted to communicate with the host system, all of which are disposed within the housing and communicatively coupled to the processing unit. A first software routine stored in the computer readable memory processes a user input received from the keypad and sends a command to the host system via the radio frequency transceiver. Additionally, a second software routine stored in the computer readable memory receives process information sent from the host system in response to the command and displays the received process information via the portable computer display.

The wearable computer also executes a routine that processes the video camera image to automatically identify process control devices within the field of view of the wearer based on device features such as device tags, a routine that enables a wearer to verify the proper connection of devices and/or communication channels within a process control system, a routine that displays a common image on both the heads up display and an operator workstation display and a routine that stores and automatically retrieves voice messages pertaining to any device within the process control system.
