An insect zapper gun is capable of killing a target insect at a distance from the user. The zapper gun incudes an electrifiable projectile fired from a handheld base. When the projectile comes into contact with the target insect, an electric charge on the projectile is transmitted to the insect rendering the insect deceased.

Disclosed is a mesh heating system including: two or more electrodes configured to supply a current to the wire mesh heating element; a mesh heating element comprising filaments disposed between the two or more electrodes; and a tensioner to maintain the wire mesh heating element at tension along an axis of tension as the wire mesh heating element is heated, wherein some of the filaments of the mesh heating element are disposed to intersect the axis of tension at a non-orthogonal angle.

The present teachings disclose a wire mesh heater including: a wire mesh element having a surface area including a non-contact area and a contact area along at least 50% of a wire mesh element length; a primary conductor including a slit having a contact surface, wherein the contact area contacts the contact surface to provide an electrical connection between the wire mesh element and the primary conductor. In some embodiments, the primary conductor is welded to the wire mesh element, wherein the contact area contacts the contact surface to provide an electrical connection between the wire mesh element and the primary conductor. In some embodiments, an elastic is stretched and secured tautly under tension prior to operation of the wire mesh heater, and the elastic keeps the wire mesh element tautly under tension during operation of the wire mesh heater.

A machine which inflates and seals pillows in packaging is compact in overall size, can be conveniently operated to produce varied lengths of strips of inflated pillow-type packaging as needed, can begin production of inflated pillow-type strip packaging immediately after being held out of a production cycle for some period of time, and applies a heated sealing element directly to and in sliding contact with a web of film to securely seal the inlet port of an inflated pillow while the pillow is under pressure and as the web of film is continuously and uninterruptedly advanced through the machine.

A mechanically expandable foam sheet has comprising a plurality of discrete slits therein that allow the foam sheet to be expanded from an unexpanded foam sheet configuration to an expanded foam sheet configuration. The expandable foam sheet has a density of from 14 g/liter to 48 g/liter in the unexpanded configuration and a thickness of from 6 mm to 50 mm. The slits are of a kind and of a size and arrangement that the expanded foam sheet locks into the expanded configuration by exhibiting a pressure-to-close of at least 5 gm/cm. Each of the slits provides only a single free volume in the expanded foam sheet. An expandable foam sheet having serpentine-shaped expansion and locking arms is also disclosed, as are various cushioning articles comprising expanded foam sheet.

A method and machine for manufacturing foam parts are provided. The method generally includes cutting a plurality of sections across the width of the base sheet, engaging and reorienting at least one portion of each section, and joining the portions of each section in a desired configuration to thereby form a plurality of parts. The portions can be engaged by actuator assemblies operating in successively adjacent work spaces across the width of the base sheet to simultaneously produce a plurality of similar parts. In some cases, each part includes at least one portion that is reoriented relative to another portion, such as by rotating one of the portions or adjusting one of the portions to a position that is offset from the plane of the section.

Method and apparatus which facilitate the tearing of packing materials and the like into desired lengths by pre-tearing them along the rows of perforations which are provided for that purpose. In the disclosed embodiments, a packing material having inflated chambers separated by rows of perforations is fed at a predetermined speed in a direction generally perpendicular to the rows and periodically pulled upon rather abruptly to produce a partial tearing of the material along the rows of perforations.

Machine for inflating and sealing a preconfigured cushioning material which is wound in a roll on a hollow cylindrical core and has superposed layers of plastic film sealed together to form rows of interconnected, inflatable cells, a longitudinally extending channel near one edge of the material and inlet passageways interconnecting the channel and the rows of cells. The machine includes a rotatively mounted roll support shaft, a hub mounted on the shaft for engagement with the core at the end of the roll near the channel, a circumferentially expandable roll gripper for locking engagement with the inner wall of the cylindrical core, a feed mechanism for drawing the material and feeding it along a predetermined path, an inflator for injecting air into the cells, a nip roller, a pressing mechanism for pressing the nip roller against the roll of material, and a sealing mechanism for sealing the inlet passageways to retain the air in the cells.
