A biopsy system includes a biopsy device, a control module, and a tissue transport tube. The biopsy device includes a probe, a needle, a cutter, and a transport valve. The transport valve is in communication with the cutter lumen. The control module is in communication with the biopsy device and includes a sample management assembly configured to receive one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter. The transport tube extends between the sample management assembly and the biopsy device. The transport tube is in communication with the transport valve such that the transport tube is configured to receive the one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter.

The drive system is configured to translate the mandrel and turn the one or more rollers.

The valve is disposed proximally of the analysis area and configured to alternate between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The tissue sample holder is disposed proximally of the valve and fixedly attached to the body. The valve is configured to permit analysis of the sample disposed in the analysis area when the valve is in the closed configuration and to permit the tissue sample to be passed into the tissue sample holder when the valve is in the open configuration.

The piercer drive assembly is configured to selectively fire the piercer. A biopsy device includes a body, a needle, a hollow cutter, and a tissue sample holder. The needle extends distally from the body and includes a lateral aperture. The cutter is movable relative to the needle to sever a tissue sample and defines a cutter lumen. The tissue sample holder includes a manifold and an outer cover. The manifold includes a plurality of passages and an indexing portion. Each passage of the plurality of passages is configured to selectively index relative to a proximal end of the hollow cutter. The outer cover includes a resilient member. The resilient member is configured to engage with the indexing portion of the manifold to selectively index a passage of the plurality of passages with the distal end of the hollow cutter.

Biopsy device

A core needle biopsy device includes a body, a needle assembly and a drive assembly. The needle assembly extends distally from the body and includes a hollow piercer and a hollow cutter. The piercer is disposed within the cutter. The cutter includes a distal tip and a swaged portion proximate the distal tip. The drive assembly is configured to selectively cock and fire the piercer and the cutter.

A sterile cover assembly is for a biopsy device. The biopsy device includes a reusable holster including a housing and driving mechanism. The driving mechanism is for driving a cutter in a needle of a probe. The housing is adapted to releasably couple to the probe. The sterile cover assembly includes a sleeve and a flexible sterile cover. The sleeve is configured to receive at least a portion of the housing of the reusable holster. The sterile cover is coupled to the sleeve and is configured to cover the housing of the holster.

A biopsy imaging rod () includes an elongated rod member () having a sharp distal end () and a channel extending from a proximal end to an egress port () near the distal end, and it also includes an onboard biopsy marker () positioned in the channel proximal to the egress port. The biopsy imaging rod also includes a pushrod () slideably positioned in the channel adjacent to the biopsy marker extending from the proximal end of the elongated rod member to the egress port, the pushrod biased to bend toward the biopsy marker. The biopsy imaging rod may additionally include an imageable portion between the distal end and the egress port. Methods for making and using the biopsy imaging rod are also disclosed.
