An on-board vehicle computer system receives a software update package from a remote computer system via a wireless communication network. The update package includes a software update for an updatable electronic component (e.g., an ECU) of the vehicle. Prior to installing the update, the vehicle computer system may check for a valid backup software version in a storage medium in the vehicle computer system to facilitate reversion to a previous software version in the event of an error during installation of the update. Installation of the update may be delayed until a compatible backup software version is obtained. After installation of the update, the system stores the update in the storage medium as the current backup software version for the updatable electronic component. This facilitates roll-back to a functional state in the event of an error during a future update.

The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for providing various types of information to a vehicle driver. Such information can be used by the vehicle driver singularly or in conjunction with other information available to the vehicle driver in order to allow the driver to operate the vehicle in an increasingly safe manner and/or to reduce the likelihood of property damage and/or possible bodily injuries to the driver, etc. In some instances, such information is presented to the driver as an augmented reality environment such that the driver can 'see through' objects that may be occluding the driver's vision.

An on-board vehicle computer system for a vehicle includes at least one processing unit and a memory having stored therein computer-executable instructions configured to cause the on-board vehicle computer system to implement various aspects of a predictive cruise control (PCC) system. In one aspect, the computer system provides a plurality of available speed control bands in a PCC system, and the available speed control bands are selectable by an operator of the vehicle. In another aspect, the computer system provides an upper speed margin and a lower speed margin for a PCC system, and the upper and lower speed margins are adjustable by an operator of the vehicle. Related notifications may be presented via an operator interface (e.g., a touchscreen display provided in a vehicle dashboard or other easily accessible area).
