A two-stage valve assembly for a turbocharger includes a movable primary valve adapted to open and close a valve seat of the turbocharger. The primary valve has at least one opening extending axially therethrough. The two-stage valve assembly also includes a movable secondary valve coupled to the primary valve to open and close the at least one opening of the primary valve. The two-stage valve assembly further includes a spring disposed between the primary valve and the secondary valve to seat the secondary valve against the primary valve. The secondary valve is adapted to be coupled to a valve arm of the turbocharger such that relative small movement of the valve arm causes the secondary valve to move and open the opening to allow some exhaust gas of the turbocharger to escape through the at least one opening without moving the primary valve relative to the valve seat.

Two-stage valve assembly for turbocharger

A turbocharger includes a turbine wheel, a compressor wheel, a shaft coupled to the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel, and a thrust bearing. The thrust bearing includes a loaded side and an unloaded side. The loaded side bears a majority of axial loading caused by force imbalances between the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel during engine startup. The thrust bearing restricts oil flow to the unloaded side as compared to the loaded side during engine startup.

A turbomachine with a rotary shaft supporting a turbine wheel is supported for rotation in a housing. The shaft extends through a bore in the housing and a bearing assembly being disposed in the bore. At least one end of the shaft has a primary seal and a secondary seal. The primary seal comprises a non-contact seal defined by an annular clearance between a first non-rotating seal element and a second seal element that rotates with the shaft. The primary seal is arranged to receive lubricating oil from the bearing assembly. An oil slinging feature is provided between the primary and secondary seals.

A product usable with a turbocharger may include a compressor wheel having an inducer section and an exducer section. Air may be collected by the inducer section and expelled by the exducer section. A cover may define a diffuser and a collection volute. The diffuser may lead away from the exducer section to the collection volute. The cover may define a collection cavity opening to the collection volute through a port and extending in an axial direction. The cover may define an inlet passage around the inducer section and the cover may include a dividing wall separating the inlet passage from the collection cavity.

This invention relates to an actuator assembly for a turbocharger pressure control valve assembly and a method of assembling a pressure control assembly of a turbocharger. The assembly comprises an actuator coupled to an actuator rod which in use is coupled to the valve assembly to control the position thereof. The actuator rod comprises an elongate member at least a portion of which is flexible. The actuator rod may be a resilient member which may be substantially straight when stressed. In use the actuator rod may extend in a substantially straight line between the actuator and the valve assembly.

A compressor for compressing a gas comprises an impeller wheel () including a plurality of vanes () rotatably mounted within a housing (). There is at least one downstream aperture () communicating between the annular flow passage () and the surface () of the housing () swept by the impeller vanes () and at least one upstream aperture communicating between the annular flow passage () and the inducer or intake portions of the inlet. A plurality of inlet guide vanes () are mounted within the inducer portion () of the inlet downstream of the at least one upstream aperture to induce pre-swirl in gas flowing through the inducer portion of the inlet.
