A shaft assembly having: a first shaft with an inner facing surface having: an inner facing spline extending between spline ends; an inner facing projection, adjacent to one of the spline ends, extending to an inner facing projection surface; and an inner facing projection seat, adjacent to another of the spline ends; and a second shaft having an outer facing surface having: an outer facing spline extending between spline ends; an outer facing projection, adjacent to one of the spline ends of the outer facing spline, extending to an outer projection surface; and an outer facing projection seat, adjacent to another of the ends of the outer facing spline; the first shaft at least partially surrounds the second shaft; the inner facing projection surface is disposed against the outer facing projection seat; and the outer facing projection surface disposed against the inner facing projection seat.

Splined shaft assembly with piloting features

A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a wedge with a first position radially withdrawn from the brake shaft, and a second position radially pressed against the brake shaft for applying braking forces to the brake shaft and to the generator shaft.

A generator assembly includes a rotor carrying a magnetic element, a bearing assembly supporting the rotor for rotation about a rotation axis, a bearing support structure extending circumferentially about the bearing assembly and configured for fixation to a housing, and a sleeve member. The sleeve member is arranged radially between the bearing assembly and the bearing support structure to limit a clearance defined radially between the bearing assembly and the bearing support structure. Integrated drive generators and methods of making generator assemblies are also described.

Generator assemblies, integrated drive generators, and methods of making generator assemblies

A diode pack comprises a plurality of diodes seated in an assembly within a housing. The diode pack also includes a plurality of radial studs extending from an axial end of the housing relative to an axis of rotation extending through the housing. Each of the radial studs is electrically connected to a respective diode within the assembly. The diode pack further includes a center stud captured within the housing between the assembly and the housing and along the axis of rotation. A method of making a diode pack includes forming a housing of an electrically insulate material, removing a portion of the housing along an axis of rotation of the housing, mounting a center stud in the housing where the portion was removed, and assembling an assembly of diodes into the housing.

A main field connection to connect to a main field winding has a semi-cylindrical portion with an axially thicker outer surface, an axially thinner inner surface, with an aperture. An extending portion extends from the semi-cylindrical portion to a remote extending end. The remote extending end extends for a first axial distance. The axially thicker portion of the semi-cylindrical portion extends for a second axial distance. A ratio of the first axial distance to the second axial distance is between 0.65 and 1.4. A rotating assembly, a generator and a method are also disclosed.

A resistor pack assembly including an anti-rotation housing. The anti-rotation housing includes a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface, one or more anti-rotation lugs extending away from the first surface, and an internal cavity extending from the second surface into the anti-rotation housing towards the first surface. The resistor pack assembly also including a positive rail located at least partially within the internal cavity, a negative rail having an inner circular face and an outer circular face located radially outward from the inner circular face, and an insulator ring is interposed between the second surface of the anti-rotation housing and the outer circular face of the negative rail.

The outboard shaft is coupled to the inboard shaft to provide rotation to the main generator through the permanent magnet generator. A system for relieving pressure from within a generator casing can include a generator shaft defining a shaft channel therein and at least one rotating valve disposed within the shaft channel of the generator shaft and in fluid communication with an interior of the generator casing and the atmosphere. The rotating valve is configured to allow fluid within the generator casing to flow through the generator shaft to the atmosphere in an open state and while rotating. The rotating valve is configured to prevent fluid within the generator casing from flowing in a closed state.

Pressure relief systems for generators

A method of driving an integrated drive generator is provided. The method includes driving a carrier shaft of an epicyclic differential and a variable component of a hydraulic trimming device that is operably coupled to a sun gear of the epicyclic differential. The method also includes driving a generator with an output ring gear that is maintained at a constant output frequency. The method further includes maintaining the constant output frequency by controllably manipulating the speed of the sun gear that is in operable communication with the output ring gear.

An electric generator has a rotor shaft to be driven to rotate with a generator rotor. A generator stator is positioned adjacent the generator rotor. A housing surrounds the generator rotor and the generator stator. The generator rotor shaft extends outwardly of the housing. A seal seals a location where the rotor shaft extends outwardly of the housing. A vent valve is configured to vent of the interior of the housing when the rotor shaft is not rotating. A variable frequency generator (VFG) rotor can include a plurality of windings configured to form a plurality of magnetic poles, each winding comprising a first winding end and a second winding end, and a first winding support structure comprising a plurality of first winding support segments configured to retain a first portion of each winding, each winding support segment being configured to move radially relative to an axis of rotation of the rotor. The first winding end of each winding extends from each winding support segment. The rotor can include at least one flexible bus bar jumper connected to two first winding ends of adjacent windings and configured to flex with radial movement of the winding support segments of respective windings attached to the flexible bus bar jumper.

A deaerator shaft may have a tubular intake segment that forms an intake end of the deaerator shaft, a tubular sleeve attachment segment that is adjacent to the intake segment, a tubular central segment that is adjacent to the sleeve attachment segment, the central segment having a third diameter that is greater than the second diameter, the central segment comprising a protruding ring that radially extends from the central segment and divides the central segment, the protruding ring having opposing flat surfaces, and a tubular discharge segment that forms a discharge end of the deaerator shaft. A gear may have a central ring positioned along an axis, opposing tabs that extend from a first axial side of the central ring, and a shouldered ring that extends from a second axial side of the central ring, the shouldered ring having a lip that extends radially inward toward the axis.
