An iron-type golf club head includes a striking face; a base surface opposite the striking face; and a perimeter weighting element surrounding the base surface and including a top-line portion, a sole portion, a heel portion, and a toe portion. A first auxiliary cavity is delimited by the perimeter weighting element and a first perimeter wall, the first perimeter wall coupled to the sole portion and to the heel portion of the perimeter weighting element. A second auxiliary cavity is delimited by the perimeter weighting element and a second perimeter wall, the second perimeter wall coupled to the sole portion and to the toe portion of the perimeter weighting element. A central cavity is at least partially delimited by the base surface, the perimeter weighting element, the first perimeter wall, and the second perimeter wall, and an insert is within the central cavity.

Golf club head

A golf club may include a front surface, a rear surface having a recess, and an insert at least partially disposed in the recess. The insert may comprise a durometer hardness of less than about 95 Shore A and a cavity having a reinforcement member disposed therein. Preferably, the durometer hardness of the reinforcement member is also less than about 95 Shore A. The insert may further comprise an anterior perimetric boundary having a first length and a posterior perimetric boundary having a second length. The ratio of the first length to the second length may be less than 1 and greater than 0.5. In one example, the insert may have a triangular front profile and a triangular side profile.

A golf club head according to one or more aspects of the present invention may include a main cavity having at least one auxiliary cavity and a base surface. An insert may be associated with the base surface and may comprise at least two contact elements, with a bridge member disposed therebetween. Different contact elements of the insert may be disposed in separate respective auxiliary cavities, such that each contact element may be associated with the base surface. The bridge member of the insert may be dissociated from the base surface. Moreover, a surface coating may be selectively applied to the head to permit a durable adhesive bond between the insert and the base surface.

At least three clubs of a set of golf clubs may have an average volume between about 75 cmand about 90 cm. The transverse dimensions of the at least three clubs may progressively decrease from a highest volume club to a lowest volume club. At least one club of a set may include a constraining member in a cavity. A linear distance between a sweet spot and a center of gravity may progressively decrease from a lower lofted club to a higher lofted club within a set. At least one golf club of a set may include a face plate portion, and at least two golf clubs of the set may include a cup face portion. At least two clubs of a set may include a progressively increasing hosel length from a lowest lofted club to a highest lofted club. The strike face of at least one club of a set may include a bulge and a roll. A first club of a set may have a face thickness that is less than a face thickness of a second club of the set.
