This invention relates to printable high strength/toughness polymerizable material systems for making dental products such as artificial teeth, dentures, splints, veneers, inlays, onlays, orthodontic appliances, aligners, copings, frame patterns, crowns and bridges and the like. A DLP, stereolithography, modified or their modification and combination based printer is used to cure polymerizable material in several different methods of this invention to build-up the object. The resulting three-dimensional object has good dimensional stability.

High strength three dimensional fabricating material systems and methods for producing dental products

The present disclosure relates to an aqueous dental glass ionomer composition comprising a reactive particulate glass, a water-soluble, polymerizable polymer which is reactive with the particulate glass in a cement reaction, a hydrolysis-stable, water-soluble monomer having a single polymerizable double bond and optionally a carboxylic acid group or hydroxyl group; and a polymerization initiator system, wherein the polymerizable polymer is obtainable by a process comprising a step of polymerizing a mixture comprising a first polymerizable monomer comprising at least one optionally protected carboxylic acid group and a first polymerizable organic moiety, and optionally a second copolymerizable monomer comprising one or more optionally protected primary and/or secondary hydroxyl and/or amino group(s) and a second polymerizable organic moiety, for obtaining an water-soluble polymer; a step of coupling to the water-soluble polymer a compound having a polymerizable moiety and a functional group reactive with an optionally protected carboxylic acid group of repeating units derived from the first polymerizable monomer or an optionally protected hydroxyl and/or amino group of repeating units derived from the second copolymerizable monomer in the water-soluble polymer obtained in step a), wherein the optionally protected carboxylic acid group and the optionally protected hydroxyl and/or amine group are deprotected, so that polymerizable pendant groups are linked to the backbone by ester groups, urethane groups and/or amide groups, and, optionally, a step of deprotecting the protected carboxylic acid group for obtaining a polymerizable polymer.

Aqueous dental glass ionomer composition

An aqueous dental glass ionomer composition comprising (A) a reactive particulate glass, (B) a water-soluble polymer comprising acidic groups, which is reactive with the particulate glass in a cement reaction, (C) a water-soluble, hydrolysis-stable monomer having a single polymerizable double bond and optionally a carboxylic acid group or hydroxyl group; (D) a water-soluble, hydrolysis-stable polymerizable crosslinker having at least two polymerizable carbon-carbon double bonds; and (E) a polymerization initiator system.

A method for light-curing polymerizable materials to form a dental device is provided. A light-curing apparatus having at least one integrated lighting and heating source, a curing volume, and a temperature controller, preferably a fan, is used in the method. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat a first polymerizable material to temperatures within a first temperature range. A second polymerizable material is applied on or adjacent to the first polymerizable material. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat the second polymerizable material to temperatures within a second temperature range. The first temperature range has a first midpoint and the second temperature range has a second midpoint. The first midpoint temperature is at least 10&#xb0; C. apart from the second midpoint temperature. The system is particularly suitable for making dental devices such as full dentures, removable partial dentures, relines of full and partial dentures, nightguards, and occlusal splints.

Light curing system and method

The invention provides methods of making provisional and long-term dental restorations, particularly dental veneers, implants, crowns and bridges. A shell or restoration form made of polymerizable material having good dimensional shape-stability in its uncured condition is used to make the dental restoration. A polymerizable material is introduced into the cavity of the shell form. The outer shell and injected polymerizable material are polymerized and bond together to form a hardened crown structure. In one embodiment, the restoration can be fabricated indirectly by a dental laboratory. In another version, a dental practitioner can make the restoration chairside for a patient in a dental office.

Shell forms for making provisional and long-term dental restorations

This invention relates to methods for making a three-dimensional dental prosthesis using ink-jet printing systems. An ink-jet printer is used to discharge light-curable, wax-like polymerizable material in a layer-by-layer manner to build-up the prosthesis. The methods are particularly useful for making integrated dentures containing a set of artificial teeth. The denture base and set of teeth are made of light-curable, wax-like polymerizable materials comprising a mixture of monomer, oligomer, and light sensitizer. The wax-like materials are dimensionally stable in their uncured states. The denture base and artificial teeth are later light-cured to form a polymerized denture product having high flexural modulus and flexural strength.

Methods for making dental prosthesis by three-dimensional printing

The invention provides a low polymerization shrinkage dental composition and a polymerizable dental material selected from the group consisting of wax-like dental material that undergoes ring open polymerization. The dental composition is useful as restorative material and for making artificial teeth, dentures, restoratives, crowns and bridges of high strength dental polymeric material.

The invention provides high strength dental polymeric dental products made from wax-like polymerizable dental material. These dental products have superior strength compared to products formed from prior wax-like polymerizable materials. Prior wax-like polymerizable materials do not form strong enough polymeric material for making dentures. High strength dentures are made by positioning artificial teeth in wax-like polymerizable dental material of the invention. This material is then shaped and polymerized to the form a denture base of high strength dental polymeric material. These dentures are completed without forming wax and without applying inorganic plaster to the artificial teeth.

A dental product formed by a process and a method of using a denture including providing a denture having an outer face, applying a readily flowable material to the face. The flowable material comprises volatile material and polymeric material. Volatilizing at least a portion of the volatile material from the flowable material to form a readily peelable water swellable solid film. The film is substantially insoluble in water. The film comprising at least 10% by weight of the polymeric material. The denture having an outer face. The film adheres to the face and film effectively not being covalently bonded to the face. The product and method are preferably carried out using an adhesive dispenser including a container, a pump and flowable adhesive. The flowable adhesive is enclosed by the container. The pump is supported by the container and the pump is connected through a conduit to the flowable adhesive. A preferred flowable composition includes at least 1% volatile organic material, at least 10% by weight water, and at least 10% by weight polymeric material. The polymeric material comprising a compound within the scope ofwherein m is an integer from 3 to 1,000 and each n independently is an integer from 0 to 100.

The invention provides a method of making a removable partial dental prosthesis by molding a removable partial dental prosthesis having a base, an artificial tooth and a clasp. The artificial tooth is supported by said base. The base is integrally connected to the clasp. The base includes pigment and is substantially opaque. The clasp is effectively free of pigment and is substantially transparent. The base is formed to mate with oral mucosa for support of the prosthesis thereon.
