The present disclosure pertains to an antenna assembly configured to inconspicuously provide mobile communication in rugged or tactical environments. Some embodiments may include: a flexible conductor configured to receive and/or emit electromagnetic radiation; a printed circuit board (PCB) configured to match characteristic impedances; and a connector configured to mate with another connector associated with a radio or amplifier, the PCB being potentially disposed within an interior portion of the connector of the antenna assembly.

Systems and methods for providing a wearable antenna

The present application describes a method of forming a flexible dipole antenna. The method includes a step of surrounding an outer jacket of a cable with a lower limit radiating element. The lower limit radiating element includes a first annular surface opposite a second annular surface with a hollow body disposed therebetween joining the first and second annular surfaces together. Each of the first and second annular surfaces has a diameter greater than a diameter of the outer jacket of the cable. The method also includes a step of extending a bandwidth of the flexible dipole antenna by indirectly surrounding the lower limit radiating element with a higher limit radiating element. The higher limit radiating element has a length approximately 30% less than a length of the lower limit radiating element, allowing the higher limit radiating element to capture frequencies greater than those captured by the lower limit radiating element.

Flexible antenna assembly

The present application describes a method of forming a flexible dipole antenna. The method includes a step of surrounding an outer jacket of a cable with a lower limit radiating element. The lower limit radiating element includes a first annular surface opposite a second annular surface with a hollow body disposed therebetween joining the first and second annular surfaces together. Each of the first and second annular surfaces has a diameter greater than a diameter of the outer jacket of the cable. The method also includes a step of coupling the first annular surface of the lower limit radiating element with a metallic shield disposed within the outer jacket of the cable. The metallic shield encases an internal conductor of the cable. The method further includes a step of encasing the cable and the lower limit radiating element in a flexible outer sheath having a first end opposite a second end with a hollow body disposed therebetween joining the first and second ends together. The outer sheath has a diameter greater than a diameter of each of the first and second annular surfaces of the lower limit radiating element.

A broadband antenna assembly including a coaxial cable, a lower limit radiating element, a higher limit radiating element, and a flexible outer sheath encasing the components of the assembly. The lower limit radiating element has a diameter greater than a diameter of an outer jacket of the coaxial cable, allowing the lower limit radiating element to surround the coaxial cable. The dipole formed by the lower limit radiating element is approximately &#x2156; of the wavelength of the lower limit operating frequency. To capture higher frequencies, the higher limit radiating element includes a dipole that is approximately 30% shorter than that of the lower limit radiating element, allowing the antenna assembly to capture a wider bandwidth. By providing the radiating elements together with the coaxial cable, the antenna assembly removes the need for adapters and separately-connected component parts while providing a flexible outer sheath, improving mobile broadcasting applications.

An electronic device includes an adjustable filter with a first filter element, and a second filter element coupled to the first filter element. The second filter element includes a field effect transistor (FET) including a source terminal, a drain terminal, and a gate terminal. The source terminal and the gate terminal are coupled to a reference voltage. A control circuit is coupled to the drain terminal and is configured to apply a control voltage thereto to vary a capacitance between the source and drain terminals to adjust the adjustable filter.

A radio frequency (RF) communications device may include a power amplifier, an antenna, a tunable coupler between the power amplifier and the antenna, a processor, and an exciter module coupled between the processor and the power amplifier and generating an RF signal based upon a baseband signal. The processor may be configured to set the tunable coupler to a desired tuning and thereby defining a transfer function for the tunable coupler, and to generate an inverse transfer function of the transfer function of the tunable coupler. The processor may be configured to perform digital filtering upstream of the power amplifier based upon the inverse transfer function.

A radio frequency (RF) signal combiner/splitter may include a printed circuit board (PCB) having first and second opposing major surfaces, and openings therethrough. The RF signal combiner/splitter may further include a ferromagnetic body. The ferromagnetic body may include a first portion spaced from the first major surface of the PCB, a second portion spaced from the second major surface of the PCB, and interconnecting portions coupling the first and second portions and extending through respective openings in the PCB. The PCB may include conductive traces cooperating with the ferromagnetic body to define circuitry for combining/splitting RF signals. For example, the PCB may further comprise additional conductive traces cooperating with the ferromagnetic body to define impedance matching circuitry coupled to the circuitry for combining/splitting RF signals.

RF signal combiner/splitter and related methods

A transmission line impedance transformer may include a printed circuit board (PCB) having a dielectric layer and an electrically conductive layer thereon defining a medial interconnection portion, and first and second lateral loop portions extending laterally outwardly from opposing first and second sides of the medial interconnection portion. The PCB also may have first ferrite body receiving openings therein adjacent the first lateral loop portion and second ferrite body receiving openings therein adjacent the second lateral loop portion. The transmission line impedance transformer may also include a first ferromagnetic body extending through the first ferrite body receiving openings to surround the first lateral loop portion, and a second ferromagnetic body extending through the second ferrite body receiving openings to surround the second lateral loop portion.
