Methods, devices, and systems for coherent time-gated residual spur characterization and correction in signal analyzers. In some cases, the method includes: displaying a signal on the display of the signal analyzer that is present without an input signal being provided to an input of the signal analyzer; establishing a predetermined amplitude threshold above which energy spikes in the signal being displayed on the display of the signal analyzer are considered spurious; automatically identifying one or more spurious energy spikes in the signal being displayed on the display of the signal analyzer based on the predetermined amplitude threshold; and automatically reducing or removing the one or more spurious energy spikes from the signal being displayed on the display of the signal analyzer. The method can be performed using one or more processors, application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), field-programmable gate array (FPGA), or other circuitry on any suitable signal analyzer.

Methods, devices, and systems for coherent time-gated residual spur characterization and correction in signal analyzers

A system and method are provided for making time domain measurements of a wideband periodic radio frequency (RF) signal using a narrowband measurement instrument operating in a frequency domain. The method includes receiving the periodic RF signal at a single port corresponding to a receiver of the measurement instrument; determining a complex absolute signal having amplitudes and phases of spectral components of the periodic RF signal over an entire bandwidth of the periodic RF signal in the frequency domain; and reconstructing a time domain signal corresponding to the periodic RF signal by transforming the complex absolute signal from the frequency domain to the time domain.

Method and system for making time domain measurements of periodic radio frequency (RF) signal using measurement instrument operating in frequency domain

A method of determining group delay between periodic radio frequency (RF) signals received at a narrow-band coherent receivers includes receiving a first periodic RF signal at a first coherent receiver in the frequency domain, receiving a second periodic RF signal at a second coherent receiver in the frequency domain, which is delayed with respect to the first periodic RF signal, the first and second periodic signals having the same period and carrier frequency; determining a cross-spectrum signal of the first and second periodic RF signals in the frequency domain, the cross-spectrum signal including amplitudes and phases versus frequency; calculating a slope of phase of the cross-spectrum signal at frequencies over at least a portion of a bandwidth of the cross-spectrum signal; and determining a group delay between the first and second periodic RF signals to be the slope of phase of the cross-spectrum signal.

Method and system for determining group delay between periodic radio frequency (RF) signals

A system has an extended dynamic range for measuring distortion in an output signal of a device under test (DUT), the output signal having at least a first fundamental signal. The system includes a first combiner and a test receiver. The first combiner is configured to inject a first cancellation signal generated by a first signal source into the output signal from the DUT, at least one of a first magnitude and a first phase of the first cancellation signal being adjustable for suppressing the first fundamental signal. The test receiver is configured to receive and measure the output signal having the suppressed first fundamental signal.
