A system includes a two stage heat exchanger and a processor. The processor is configured to receive a call from a thermostat and execute, in response to the call, an adaptive staging algorithm. The adaptive staging algorithm is configured to determine, in response to a recent cycle of the two stage heat exchanger being a first stage cycle, a first stage up time of the two stage heat exchanger as a first function of a first value, the first value corresponding to the recent cycle being the first stage cycle. The adaptive staging algorithm is also configured to determine, in response to the recent cycle of the two stage heat exchanger being a second stage cycle, a second stage up time of the two stage heat exchanger as a second function of a second value, the second value corresponding to the recent cycle being the second stage cycle, where the first and second values are different.

The heat pump further includes an injection conduit extending from a first conduit of the working fluid circuit to an injection port of the compressor, where the injection conduit includes a second expansion device, and the injection conduit is configured to direct a portion of the working fluid from the working fluid circuit, through the second expansion device, through the economizer, and to the injection port of the compressor to inject of the portion of the working fluid into the compressor.

A climate control system may include climate control equipment, a sensor that measures temperature in a building, and a control system that controls operation of the equipment using a first temperature schedule, which associates each time step with a temperature setpoint, when the building is occupied. When not occupied, the control system determines an expected return time based on historical occupancy data associated with the building, determines the temperature setpoint associated with the expected return time, determines candidate schedules each expected to result in the inside air temperature meeting the temperature setpoint, determines efficiency metrics each associated with one of the candidates based on historical performance data resulting from previous operation of the climate control system, and controls operation of the equipment based on a second temperature schedule selected from the candidates based on associated efficiency metrics.

A variable capacity furnace includes a variable capacity fuel valve configured to supply a fuel to a burner, where the variable capacity fuel valve is configured to be controlled to a target setting over a range of settings to modulate an amount or flow rate of the fuel supplied to the burner. The variable capacity furnace also includes a control assembly having processing circuitry and memory circuitry. The memory circuitry includes instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the processing circuitry, cause the processing circuitry to execute a control algorithm to determine, based on whether an indoor temperature is progressing toward a set point over time and based on a temperature differential between the set point and the indoor temperature, a target setting of the variable capacity fuel valve. The instructions also cause the processing circuitry to control the variable capacity fuel valve to the target setting.

In an aspect, an HVAC system includes an inducer motor to provide combustion airflow, and a pressure sensor to measure an output airflow pressure of the inducer motor. The HVAC system may initiate the inducer motor, and receive a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal from the inducer motor, wherein the PWM signal indicates a PWM signal of the inducer motor corresponding to a predetermined airflow pressure of the inducer motor and measured by the pressure sensor. The HVAC system may compare the PWM signal to a baseline value, and control the inducer motor based on the comparing of the PWM signal to the baseline value. The HVAC system may also generate a status notification of the combustion airflow of the HVAC system in response to the comparing the PWM signal to the baseline value.

The system determines that a return signal is not received from the remote sensor. The system obtains a temperature reading from the return air sensor. The system determines whether the temperature reading satisfies a temperature setting stored in the memory. In response to determining that the temperature reading does not satisfy the temperature setting, the system enables heating or cooling of the HVAC unit until the temperature setting is satisfied. In response to determining that the temperature reading satisfies the temperature setting, the system disables heating or cooling of the HVAC unit.

The present disclosure includes systems and methods for determining dimensions, shapes, and locations of rooms of a building using a mobile device for controlling heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) provided to the rooms and building. A measuring device receives a shape of a room in the building and determines a dimension set of the room based on the shape of the room. The measuring device transmits the shape of the room and the dimension set to a mobile device that determines a layout of the building based on the shapes and the dimension sets corresponding to the rooms of the building. In this manner, the systems and methods provide the layout of the building more efficiently, resulting in an improved HVAC system installation and operation process.
