An electrical cable may include: at least two first members extending along a length of the electrical cable, each of the first members including a conducting element and an insulating layer radially external to the conducting element; at least two second members extending along the length of the electrical cable, each of the second members including a strength element and a conductive layer radially external to the strength element; and/or the first and second members being stranded around and in contact with a cradle extending along the length of the electrical cable. The cradle may be made of polymeric material having a tensile modulus greater than or equal to 1 GPa and a Vicat softening temperature greater than or equal to 125&#xb0; C.

The present disclosure relates to an impact resistant, multipolar power cable () comprising, a plurality of cores (), each core () comprising at least one conductive element () and an electrical insulating layer () in a position radially external to the at least one conductive element (). The cores () are stranded together so as to form an assembled element providing a plurality of interstitial zones (). An expanded polymeric filler () fills the interstitial zones () between the plurality of cores (). An expanded impact resistant layer () is in a position radially external to the expanded polymeric filler () and comprises a polymer that differs from the expanded polymeric filler ().

Lightweight and flexible impact resistant power cable and process for producing it

An electric power cable contains a core and a jacket forming the exterior of the cable. The jacket is formed by extruding a first layer and a second layer over a plurality of concentric neutral elements, substantially encapsulating these elements. At least the first layer is an expanded polymeric material, by having its density reduced through the use of a foaming agent during extrusion. The second layer, which may also be expanded, is extruded around the first layer. The expanded polymeric material makes stripping the jacket easier, minimizes indentations in the cable's insulation layers, lightens the cable, and increases the cable's flexibility.

An apparatus () and method cleans a batch of pellets or granules prior to use in an extrusion process. Loose contaminants having material characteristics that are undersired for the extruded product are first removed () from the batch using a deduster. The deduster may also remove uncontaminated fines and fluff from the batch. Pellets that are defective or otherwise undersired for the extrusion process as well as other loose particle contaminants can then be efficiently detected and removed () without the risks of fines clogging the apparatus or shielding the detection process. Magnets may help remove () particulates of ferrous material before or after the removal () of defective pellets. The resulting batch of pellets helps to produce extruded materials of higher quality, such as insulation material in electrical cables.
