Methods and systems are provided for dynamically detecting and correcting the deactivation of beamforming from an antenna. One or more users are identified as present within a particular geographic area typically served by beamforming, and the average signal strength of the one or more user devices is monitored. If a threshold level of degradation of the average signal strength is detected, then a beamforming status is determined for one or more of the antennas serving the user device or devices. Based on the determination, corrective measures are taken and beamforming is reactivated.

Dynamically detecting and correcting the deactivation of beamforming

A device, method, and computer-readable medium are provided for detecting and mitigating signal interference due to passive intermodulation at a base station. Generally, when antennas are configured to transmit at two or more different bands or frequencies, particular combinations of frequencies can introduce passive intermodulation at one of the corresponding receive bands or frequencies. Passive intermodulation is exacerbated, in some instances, due to the presence of non-linearities in the RF path. Embodiments can be configured to automatically detect the presence of passive intermodulation in one of the receive bands or frequencies and dynamically mitigate the affected receive signal to maintain optimal system performance.

Methods and systems are provided for dynamically adjusting beamforming weights based on an azimuthal change request. A proposed azimuth change of an antenna is received, such as at a base station, where the proposed azimuth change is from remote azimuth steering of the antenna. Based on the potential inter-cell interference, it can be predicted whether the proposed azimuth change can be made. The response, as to whether or not the proposed azimuth change can be made or not, is communicated to the base station.

A system for dynamically setting a frame configuration in a wireless network in an emergency event includes an access node configured to deploy a first radio air interface. The system also includes a plurality of end-user wireless devices attached to the first radio air interface. The system further includes a processor configured to determine a trigger indicating the emergency event associated with one or more of the plurality of end-user wireless devices. The processor is also configured to switch the frame configuration for the access node from a first frame configuration to a second frame configuration, the second frame configuration including more uplink subframes than the first frame configuration.

Systems and methods for dynamically setting frame configuration in a wireless network

An antenna system for a wireless network that provides multi-band and/or multi-sector operation from a single location is provided. The antenna system may provide improved control and adjustment of antennas contained within a compact design to allow sectors of coverage provided by the antennas to be modified to accommodate different cell site parameters that may otherwise have been satisfied using a more distributed arrangement of antennas.

Systems and methods for controlling coverage in a wireless communications network after a disruption in a control signal provided to a multi-directional antenna are provided. The system may detect that a disruption has occurred in the control signal, causing the antenna to broadcast in a different mode and leading to a change in the coverage area. The change in the coverage area may cause user devices to experience a drop in coverage or to experience interference from multiple, overlapping coverage areas. In embodiments, the system increases or decreases the power provided to the antenna to control the coverage area and/or limit interference, in order to compensate for the disruption.

Controlling coverage in a wireless communications network

A base station dynamically controls whether or not to serve a WCD on an in-band carrier defined within occupied bandwidth of a host carrier, with the dynamic controlling being based on whether the base station is operating in a capacity-mode on the host carrier, such as whether the base station has beamforming enabled on the host carrier and/or the base station is serving one or more relay nodes on the host carrier. If the base station is operating in a capacity-mode on the host carrier, then the base station could responsively transition a WCD from being served on the in-band carrier to instead being served on a guard-band carrier defined within a guard-band of the host carrier, or to being served on another carrier that is not an in-band carrier defined in the occupied bandwidth of the host carrier.

Method and system for controlling in-band carrier use based on capacity-mode of service on host carrier

Embodiments of the invention include a system for reducing tropospheric ducting and tropospheric refraction in a wireless telecommunication network. A base station or network component receives weather information and determines if conditions are right for tropospheric ducting or tropospheric refraction. A simultaneous rise in UL interference, call failure rates, and call drop rates in adjacent markets can indicate tropospheric ducting. A rise in UL interference, call failure rates, and call drop rates by devices in one market can indicate tropospheric refraction. Where these UL interferences, call failure rates, and call drop rates occur daily for a similar duration each day, they are treated as being caused by tropospheric propagation and a mitigation routine is implemented through antenna down-tilt.

Methods and systems are provided for dynamically adjusting vertical beamforming weights to influence a width of a vertical beam emitted from an antenna. A quantity of users present in a particular geographic area is determined, where the user devices have a line of sight with the antenna and are vertically distributed from other user devices. CQIs are received from the user devices. It is determined that the quantity of user devices is above a maximum threshold of user devices, and the CQIs indicated that channel quality is below a minimum threshold. The amplitude and phase components of the vertical beamforming weight are adjusted to modify the width of the vertical beam emitted from the antenna.

Dynamically adjusting vertical beamforming weights

A wireless communication network redirects User Equipment (UE) from a source frequency band to a target frequency band. An originating wireless repeater in a wireless repeater chain wirelessly receives wireless source signals including source overhead over the source frequency band and wirelessly receives wireless target signals including target overhead over the target frequency band. The originating wireless repeater wirelessly transmits the wireless source signals including the source overhead over the source frequency band and wirelessly transmits the wireless target signals including the target overhead over the target frequency band. A terminating wireless repeater in the wireless repeater chain wirelessly receives the wireless target signals including the target overhead over the target frequency band and wirelessly transmits the wireless target signals including the target overhead over the target frequency band. The terminating wireless repeater wirelessly transmits modified source overhead over the source frequency band indicating redirection to the target frequency band.

Systems and methods for providing configured and/or dynamically adjustable coverage in wireless communications networks is disclosed. A broadcast cell may include one or more antennas used to provide one or more sectors of coverage in the network. Each antenna may include at least one radio and at least one corresponding signal transmitting and receiving component that is in communication with the radio, allowing a signal generated by the radio to be broadcast by the signal transmitting and receiving component to form at least a portion of a sector of coverage provided by the antenna. Additionally, the signal generated by the radio may be modifiable, allowing the beam of coverage emitted by the signal transmitting and receiving component to be adjusted (e.g., in any one of an x, y, and/or z-plane) for a particular operating environment.

Providing dynamic coverage in wireless communications networks

The invention is directed to methods and systems for adjusting the vertical beam width of an imbalanced antenna. In one embodiment, first and second antenna arrays are imbalanced because one of the arrays has at least one more radiating element than the other. The additional gain created by additional radiating element(s) distorts the beam and alters the coverage area of the corresponding array, in embodiments. The tilt of the array having at least one more additional radiating element(s) is modified using phase shifting technology and based on the tilt of the array having fewer elements. By modifying tilt of the array having at least one more additional radiating element(s), the upper 3 dB points of the first and second array may be aligned to correct for the distorted beam and altered coverage area between the first and second arrays.

Systems and methods for adjusting a network signal in a wireless telecommunications network are provided. In aspects, the method can include identifying a broadcast cell having a plurality of TR components. The method can also include determining if a Sector Power Ratio (SPR) of one or more of the TR components is above an SPR threshold value. The method can also include adjusting the power and/or phase supplied to one or more of the TR components to adjust one or more network signal footprints.
